To witter = to chatter pointlessly or at unnecessary length (Collins pocket edition).

I love the nuances of the language and try to use the most apt/accurate words in my writing (am hapless in spoken conversation) and have tried to cut down on any words deemed "archaic" by the dictionary (but fail).

Something about me.

A potpourri.

I have a very dear wife - we've been married 24 years - and 3 children, aged 19, 16 and 4, all of whom tolerate me much more than I deserve.

Outside my family, Music and history are my great loves.

I play drums and percussion and play in a concert band, my wife too (oboe). Until I stopped work a year ago I also played in a "pop" band - covering Buddy Holly to Blondie mainly; at present the band uses my drum kit, but without me! (It's a subtler player).

Music loves - very broad. See the Arts Forum - I've started putting in a few comments to others' posts. Western classical - from Gregorian Chant to Philip Glass; jazz - Bix Biederbacke/hot jazz from the 20's; big bands 30's especially; Folk music from these Islands (UK); cajun/zydeco; all sorts of pop, currently majoring in Sigur Ros and Slowdive; much else besides.

I collect dice; CDs of current favourites (lots on I-Tunes too), books (mainly on Autism at present) am wading through Tony Attwood's great tome A S All you need to know) (I've forgotten the title), an history of Bletchley Park (Alan Turing, Enigma et alia), Cornford's translation of Plato's Republic and T E Lawrence - Seven Pillars of Wisdom. Did I mention above that I've been off work awhile and have a lot of free time?

I love walking. I compose music.

My wife and I take our youngest to model railway exhibitions, old railways, parks and lakes at weekends.

I belong (have been President twice - and the Club survived) of our local Lions Club (similar to Round Table, Rortary that sort of thing) and enjoy the fundraising (I can put on an act in public, but generally hide - being the scribe leaving the jolly social interaction to the others) and socials (after 10 years the others have accepted my little idiosyncracies).

Fun - no idea - like many I live within myself, and am content; the only problem is interacting with others. I dislike upsetting others, especially my family, but of course, keep so -doing.

I think everybody is confused in this crazy planet called earth. Well, the good face of the coin is that things can be turned very better everywhere.
I also think we learn a lot here.
