i have an idea, bazzare.
do a screenshot of your inbox itself, if it's all from the same person or the same topic, the server probably glitched and didn't save the code line that tells it it sent the message. if not, it's either a spammer, or the computer is making another kind of mistake and sending every message sent to you (and maybe the person it's addressed to)

We can't get into PM's. Atomik jacka** spammed my inbox a few days ago. Actually he spammed all the mods' inboxes, so it got him banned pretty quickly. So I am wondering if it was related to that incident. Or, as squier says, it could just as well be a system problem.

I deleted all the messages in my inbox and now it says no new messages. I didn't see any spam messages at all. I am still waiting for Alex to investigate what happened and i hope it is all traceable on the system logs as The Machine1 said.

I have been on this case for days an have been following a great number of leads. The only person here with the motive and the ability to carry out this crime is none other than the nefarious Quatermass. I suggest harsh and swift punishment be dispensed upon this vile member of our otherwise safe community.

Yeah thats 2^16 or an unsigned short int which maybe the maxium size of our mail boxes?

Actually, 2^16 is actually 65536. This is 2^16 - 1.

In computer programming languages 0 is often the first digit counted so thats 0-65535
in computer talk and 1-65536 in math talk.

Given the claims which were made,
that a particular thread was bumped
for certain purposes,

It seems rather odd to choose a thread which meandered
into such territory as ducks, rather than this one.

Anyhow, I'm bumping this, as the discussion is both
more on point, and less abusive.

You should unlock my other thread since you exceeded your mandate by locking it. Your mandate was to delete spam if i'm not mistaken.

Unfortunately the only one that can say whether or not (with 100% accuracy) a mod has overstepped their bounds also seems to never be around, and never do anything truly constructive when he is.

Amen to that. If Alex gave us a proper set of mod guidelines, we would have resolved this mess ages ago.

He told you to delete Spam. Seems pretty clear-cut to me.

You are mistaken. Alex has clearly stated that we can intervene in flame wars - he compared our role in a flame war to a "firefighter" as opposed to a negotiator. We also have a right to ban bona-fide trolls.

In plain English, I have no interest in being a therapist for your issues with authority. You are a member of a moderated forum. Accordingly, you need to live with this forum's terms of service. This includes refraining from personal attacks against everyone, mods included.

If you don't like it, I suggest that you find a forum that is not moderated.

That's all I have to say on this issue, so don't bother trying to bait me into confrontation.

It's healthy to question authority, especially when a group has no functional voice in how that "authority" is assigned. Mods should be democratically elected if you want respect in any authoritative sense. Otherwise it's just random and dictatorial... I can't respect a process or system like that, at all.

Excuse me, but I did not ask to be a mod. I suggested more mods be elected. However, it was other people who suggested my name (I kept on insisting that I wasn't ready for modship, but Alex saw fit to give me modship).

It is healthy to question authority within certain limits. But I believe we should not be given the sort of crap that we have been given over the past month or so.
