Getting placed elsewhere would be convenient. But if not, you’ll probably find a job elsewhere. You didn’t think you’d ever meet a girl and have a date again either, but you were wrong about that as you’ve recently shared about goning on a few dates. I’m just pointing this out because you were wrong about never dating again and if you were wrong about that you might be wrong about this, too.

Sly, I neither like nor dislike you, I am neutral. I did stick up for you though, when goldfish said you could work 40 hours a week and the only reason you don't is because you don't want to "better" yourself. He has absolutely no understanding of the fact that everyone is different. If you say you can only work part-time, I believe you. I really felt he was badgering you unfairly.

I hope this job situation gets worked out successfully for you. Best of luck.

Wow. I never said any of this. If you’re going to quote me, don’t misquote me.

Sly said it’s not the tasks he can’t do, it’s the hours. So I asked him what happens after x# of hours that prevents him from completing an 8 hour shift. I asked so I could better understand sly’s reality & possibily make a suggestion as to what he might do to overcome the constraints he has to being able to work more hours than he does.

Meanwhile, in that same thread, You were calling sly a loser and I had to remind you that you were on an autism support forum and that ASD can impair people beyond the ability to work.

Yes you did say that, in a very dismissive way. And I did not call Sly a loser. I referred to "lonely loser guys" and left it to any participant to decide if it applied to them. Then YOU said it applied to Sly - thereby calling him a loser. You, not me.

You should be more careful who you insult.

Here are goldfish's exact words to sly:

Quote:
I don’t feel that bad for you, sly. You have less than zero interest in working on yourself until you’re capable of working longer hours. You’re content with doing as little work as humanly possible, and that’s why you’ll get very little money for your lack of efforts.

When there comes a time when you decide to work towards being able to make more money, I’ll be around to encourage you to stay the course on your path of self improvement. Until then, you won’t find me saying sly deserves more money for his willingness to do nothing for it.

I leave it to the readers to determine whether this is dismissive and offensive. I was appalled and I stuck up for sly.

This is my post, but you’ve truncated the conversation & thus the context.

Also note: Nowhere in this post did I write you you claimed I did.

sly, I'm not going to further debate goldfish, it's your thread, after all. I hope you will continue letting us know how your employment picture is going.

IMO, you should be banned for intentionally skirting the forum rules around insults & personal attacks in order to call sly a loser.

I've been having a lot of anxiety attacks lately, too =/

I almost called in sick the other day, and then I started to feel better and turned back around.

I've been re-reading about them and practicing the 5-2-5 breathing and I'm starting to feel better.

All you can do is keep on trucking.

Another lie. I’m paid quite well for my opinions when doing manufacturing & marketing consulting work for a friend’s business, actually. Try again, Bea. I know you can be more mean spirited than that!

Hey Sly I've only just noticed this thread. I feel bad that I didn't know how you were feeling or about your job situation. I almost didn't go into work on Monday because I was so exhausted after my panic attack on Sunday. I thankfully had very little work to do and managed to get through the day.

Sly managed to calm me down after a panic attack I had the other day.

I'm sorry I couldn't do the same for you buddy.

Sly, I want better for you. Honestly.

I wish you’d ask yourself all the right questions about why you can’t work longer hours, or a different job, and identify the obstacles & constraints you have to overcome in order to be a more productive higher earning sly.

Questions like:

Why can’t I work longer hours?
Is it depression? (Then treat the depression.)
Is it anxiety? (Then treat the anxiety.)
Is it physical strength & stamina? (Then set a goal to get fitter.)
Is my commute too long? (Then apply for jobs closer to home.)

Etc etc, you’re smart enough to figure out the right questions for yourself.. answer them honestly, and then make your action plan for what you’re going to do to overcome those obstacles & constraints until you’re capable of working more.

And I’m not just talking s**t, sly. 6 years ago I couldn’t work at all and I had to go through a very similar checklist & process before I was back to work full time. If you’re determined, you can do it.

As someone who has nearly always been in schools for diagnosed autistics, I know that many can not handle a standard workload. Which is one reason why they are in those schools. Having to do things and keep schedules that are outside of their normal operating mode, can be extremely taxing. It's part of the disability for some. I have experienced this myself even though I am a very determined person.

Therein lies the difference, though. Sly says “I can’t,” instead of “I will try.” IMO, that’s his single biggest constraint to working a different job or different hours. Well, as far as one can assess from years of forum posts, at least.

Sly has said it’s not the tasks, it’s the hours. (That prevent him from working more than he does.) And that’s why I asked him what happens after x amount of time that prevents him from completing an 8h workday. He has yet to respond, so I don’t really know beyond his “I can’t,” statements.

As I said, keeping schedules outside of the normal operating mode can be very taxing to the point of being unbearable for some people who have autism. That's probably why many special ed schools have reduced hours. Everyone experiences this to some degree in certain situations and use phrases like "taking forever" and "pure torture" to describe it. But for someone with autism it can be much more intense. Which leads to autistic overload.
