Not all. Alan. If built out to sea, you have to lay seabed cables, and watch for boats, and seagulls... And storms. And then theres maintainance, as these are metal over salt water.....

I didn't know Mr Perry taught geography... come to think of it, I have no idea what I thought he taught.

Wind generators are not good for the yard. They're good when you put 'em on a hill or out of the way, as they can be irritating. I'm getting some solar panels for the ceiling in a few weeks, actually.

I'd like a wind generator near me. Could paint it green............... That way, a spot of green even in winter :)

Apart from the fact that there is already 1 in Britain, being used as an experimental test point, and then there is CERN, which has an expermental reactor also..... Very interesting. Nice to know theres 2 benifits. If it works, Fusion power!! ! And if it doesn't... No more Jacque Sheriac

for wind power and also Solar, since the sun is more
infinite than oil as well! Again, I will say yay! to wind
and Solar power both!

Actually hydro is an infinite resource, too, as are solar and wind, but all are only available in very limited quantities.

That said, the two 80 Mw wind farms that are planned in the Fond du Lac, WI area should go forward. There are already two working powerplant windmills along US 41, at the top of the Niagara Escarpment a short distance south of FdL and they have caused few problems. There is a sizable wind farm in northern Kewaunee County, too.

Wisconsin also has three nuclear reactors (Kewaunee and Point Beach #1 and #2), all of which have been operating since the 1960/70s. BTW, last year's PGA golf championship was played at the Whistling Straits course in the Haven, WI area, the site of the never-built Haven nuclear power plant. I have always been a strong proponant of nuclear.

In other technologies, there is a major base-load coal plant under construction next to an existing major coal-burner in Rothschild, WI (near Wausau); WE Energies just got the go-ahead from the Wisconsin Supreme Court to begin a multi-billion dollar major expansion of their coal fired plant in Oak Creek, WI (south suburban Milwaukee) and a 230Kv power main will soon be under construction between the Duluth, MN area and the Wausau, WI area, all to increase the power supply in the state.

There shouldn't be any need for power stations if buildings can be made self-sufficient. So much energy is wasted because buildings are not properly insulated; and there is so much scope for generating heat and electricity within the home. But yes, wind farms are a positive step for the time being, and the less use on fossil fuels the better – especially coal.

non-sense! I suggest we create an energy farm like in the matrix, where AS and autistic people volunteer to be hooked up to it. There we create our own world, where eyes don't exist, and intelligence isn't a rare and foreign resource.

I like wind farms. In Germany we have a lot of wind power at the coasts and in some other areas too. I cant remember any disturbing noise and the spinning rotor blades looks like ballett dancers. The wind energy turbines are the modern form of windmills and they dont look stranger than pylons.

I'm hoping to use solar panels to power my computer rig early next year.

However, what we really need is something to generate energy form all the heat in these discussions. I think someone suggested in New Scientist that we could generate power by putting small generator magnets behind each key in the keyboard...
