Actually, i think it was Nietzsche, who wrote about his Übermensch, aka Superman.
He had a big influence on the Nazis, anarchism and even Zionism.

The concept of Nietzsche's Übermensch may have been inspired by other historical religious beliefs.

So...in a sense, yes, Santa is God, or at least we can say that he started out as the original Santa Christ, before Rob Walker popularized the concept. And yes, another significant part of the inspiration for Santa could be traced back to a Catholic Bishop from the fourth century AD. We can safely say that he has far more Christian roots than I for one thought.

Of course much of the rest of the basis for Santa can be traced back to Victorian/Edwardian England, when companies began to see families with children as a lucrative market. One of the things they did was take advantage of an element of Christmas's Saturnalia roots to slowly turn the holiday into a consumerist nightmare over the century or so since.

But, in all fairness, the concept of Santa in and of itself is perhaps the least vile element of that. At least there are some good morals associated with the old fat guy with a beard that ultimately encourages children to be on their best behaviour, and perhaps even consider growing up to be generous like him. They're just somewhat muddled because children also turn to Santa out of a desire for stuff.

Let's see,
Superman is mortal, he ages, and he can be killed by Kryptonite, so that makes him a non god.

Santa Calus on the other hand is:

- Immortal (he never ages or dies....there's only one Santa Claus over all generations)
- Omnipresent (can deliver gifts to all kids in one night).
- Having a long white beard.

So yeah...that makes him a god.

Norse gods die, I'm not sure that's a defining trait.

The Nazis coopeted the simple idea of the Ubermensch into their political ethos, but they had a very shallow and superficial understanding of Nietzsche's philosophy. After all, it was Nietzsche who had called Anti-Semitism the philosophy of those who feel cheated, and had asked the Kaiser to banish all Anti-Semites from Germany.

From a Greek and Norse mythology way of looking at it, both have godlike abilities. Santa would be godlike the same as Loki. Although Superman would stand a better chance against the Hulk than Loki.

Got it! Superman can beat Hulk, and Hulk can beat Loki, so Loki shouldnt mess with Superman.

That would be a good way to teach algebra to school kids! If A is greater than B, and so on...

But thats what so funny about current Hollywood. How they liberally mix characters from ancient mythology with characters from 20th Century comic books into the same stories.
