What a terrible thing, I' am so sorry

I wish you and your family the best and quick healing.

Try to take care after yourself after the funeral, grief is a strange thing and some aspects of it are even more difficult for autistic people.

I will do my best. It's been a long week. Dorian is breathing down our necks, trying to get her buried before it hits. If it's not one thing, it's another. It seems there have been an awful lot of obstacles to this. I get very frustrated when this happens. She was an organ donor (which was thoughtful of her), then the ME got involved and held the body for 3 additional days, then she had to go to a local funeral home to be embalmed, then she had to be flown here, the entities require sufficient notice locally to perform the services, now we have Dorian. Nothing ever goes 100% smoothly, but it would be nice if most everything didn't go wrong, or was difficult.

My left eye has had a twitch in it for two days, it's stress.

Just wanted to say I read, and agree with your observations.

We were able to beat the hurricane and the services were as lovely as they could be, considering.

This is what I have learned from this experience: the hurt left behind from a suicide is tremendous. Never believe that people don't care. My poor, sweet husband (her father) will never be the same, it will take a very long time for him to be able to just even function again. The siblings are also broken. I saw so many traumatized survivors trying to pay their respects and make sense of it all.

And, for anyone who thinks the old, " live fast, die young and leave a beautiful corpse " is true, think again. Melissa was very young, to me 30 is young. She was beautiful; like "Victoria's Secret" model level gorgeous. But when it's a suicide, the medical examiner gets involved, so the entire process gets delayed by a minimum of 3 days. She was unrecognizable. It was far from a glamorous picture.

So live... ask for help. Even when it sucks... Death is eventually inevitable, but don't hasten the process for any romanticized notion of "tortured, beautiful, tragic artist decides to check out early." Because nothing is beautiful about it, it just hurts.

Sorry to hear about your loss. I know how hard suicide is to deal with, having lost someone to it a few years ago. My deepest condolences!

Thinking of you and your family, Persephone. I hope we can support you as you continue to deal with this tragedy. I think I mentioned in my PM to you that there was a suicide in my family as well, and although it was 35 years ago I've never fully healed. Death is challenging enough under normal circumstances.

I hope you all find strength and peace moving forward. Thank you for sharing with us during this difficult time and for being so open with your feelings.

If you mean who is my Heathcliff in terms of a manipulative, violent and narcissistic psychopath, which is how I see Heathcliff, then it's a person from my past who treated me much the same as Heathcliff treated Isabella.

Hence, my name.

If you mean who is my Heathcliff in terms of a romanticised version of the character, which is not how I see Heathcliff and not how he's meant to be viewed, then ... I actually don't know. I thought I had one of those connections thirty years ago but it's turned out much differently. (Not the same person as above).

I am terribly sorry for this loss and want to say that it sounds to me like you handled it very well. I understand the stress and the unfelt emotions, and it comes at an enormous cost to you, but it was what had to be done and you did it. I believe there is a lot to be said for that...being there for others when they can't cope.

I hope your family will heal in time. I hold you, your husband and your grandson in the Light.
