That's the part that makes me hope I never have to have a colonoscopy. I could probably make it through the rest all right, I'd be unconscious for most of it anyway, but the prep? No way. I have what is probably a legitimate phobia of having diarrhea, I'd probably spend the whole prep time seriously wishing I could just die instead of go through that.
Yes, it's the preparation of the colonoscopy that frightens me. I have emetophobia, which is fear of being sick, but diarrhoea can make an emetophobe anxious too (even though I'd rather have diarrhoea than be sick). During the preparation you have to drink gallons of water all the time to prevent sickness from dehydration, but I still worry that I'm still going to be sick even if I'm keeping hydrated by drinking water. When my mum had a colonoscopy she done all the right things during the preparation but suffered those stomach cramps you get when you get diarrhoea, and those cramps always make me feel ill, they feel just like menstrual cramps except they're in the colon instead of the uterus.
I've cried out of fear and panic when other people announce they have to have a colonoscopy, so God knows how hysterical I will be if I had to have one.
