Appreciate the update, goldfish. Nice that you were able to share stories that were never heard with his family and that he is returning to Wreck Beach ...

Attended the second funeral. It was my first Indigenous funeral and was by far the best funeral service I have ever attended. He was a prominent man and the service reflected that. It was so incredibly spiritual and amazing - Christianity never had anything to offer these people. The prayers, chants, songs, dances, music/drumming, crowd interaction - it was truly awesome.

Most there were from the BJJ fighting community - probably 150-200 of them. Several Elders and family members spoke, and many of the BJJ guys. I was nervous but felt someone from The Beach needed to say something - so I gathered the courage, got on stage, and said my piece that I wanted all of these people from the rest of his life to hear about his life there, how popular and well known and respected he was etc. I also spoke about how truly sacred the place was/IS for him, and like some sort of pure magic just the right words flowed through me without thought like lightning - it was truly a beautiful moment. Cliffs of that is that I spoke about how Benito drew his Power from the ocean and that’s how he did the work that he did. His mom and dad thanked me (very spiritual people deeply connected to nature) and so did ~a dozen of these strong tough guys who were brought to tears by my words about him. So glad I went & let those words flow from the universe to their ears. It was truly a beautiful moment. 8)
