Yep....they do. Many more people do die in traffic accidents than through communicable diseases in the US.

We have to make sure we don't panic----but we also have to make sure we stem the virus. This virus is definitely more deadly than the "normal" flu virus.

It's not something we want to add to our "usual" diseases.

We are taking this virus very seriously in my country. 3 of my countrymen were infected on a cruise ship off shore Japan. There are a few hundred people with Corona on this ship, 620? Anyone returning from China, Thailand and Indonesia are forced into quarantine in their homes for a 2 week period. Only Israeli nationals are allowed in the country from those Asian countries. Funnily enough we have quite a large Chinese community in Israel, they have chosen to make it their country. No-one is avoiding them or chinese restaurants, or are particularly concerned because the government is organizing things well. Someone high up in the Ministry of Health flew out to Japan to accompany infected people on this cruise ship home and another 10 who have been stuck in quarantine but were not infected. Those sick are doing very well. They will be quarantined for an additional two weeks once home, not tragic, just inconvenient.

There one more thing we should watch out for:

Prejudice and discrimination against people of East Asian descent.

That has already become a thing in many places, or so I've heard.

From the news articles describing the covid 9 disease, the most concerning symptom is difficulty breathing and should prompt one to insist on medical attention. This is true for the flu as well.
Also, this new disease apparently may take a week to 8 days before becoming serious and dangerous.

In about 1 out of 4 Covid-19 cases, there’s a “hyperactive” immune response, which leads to more serious disease because antibodies attack healthy cells as well as unhealthy cells.

I worry about that stuff.

My husband ordered some things for me from China, for Christmas. They took from November to last week to get here, even though he'd cancelled payment once he'd determined they would not make it in time. They sent them anyway. He opened the bag and air came out, he started getting paranoid. He's not usually paranoid, so him being paranoid contributed to me being paranoid. Then, he brings them home to me. And I went ahead and opened them up because paranoia is exhausting and I have a short attention span for it.

It's not transmitted that way anyway, but sometimes the imagination works overtime even when one applies the facts. I just decided, "if I get it, I get it." Which I doubt I will, but you know?

I'll confess that it's making me a little anxious . I'm not in tip top physical health , but also not in really bad physical health .

The way everything is going way over the top with this is scaring me more than the actual virus itself. I read in a newspaper that a doctors surgery in Essex closed for a few hours because of a coronavirus scare, even though it turned out not to be the virus. So if you have any symptoms of flu or any respiratory issues do NOT see your doctor otherwise you will get your surgery closed for everything to be disinfected before it can be reopened. It is best just to isolate yourself and die of whatever it is that's causing respiratory problems such as athsma, bronchitis, etc.

If the person hasn't been to China or has had any contact with the 4 existing people in the UK with the virus then it wouldn't really suddenly be in Essex would it?

The infected people in my country are recovering well and some are in their seventies. Not so worrisome in the UK at the moment I think. I hope it stays that way. China, Italy, South Korea, Iran, Thailand, Hong Kong Macau have been declared high risk in my country.

It's my understanding that this poses a greater risk for younger people and explains why so many young people died from the Spanish Flu in 1918 which caused a similar response. It causes me a small amount of concern for my son who works in a hospital and doesn't have the option of telecommuting.

You’ll survive and be immune.

Most of the deaths have happened to either people who were immunocompromised, or those who were severely exposed to the virus—like health care workers.

4 out of 5 people who are infected with the virus have either mild or no symptoms.

I'm so, so glad I got out of the health care business while I did. With my high levels of germ anxiety it is not a good idea to work around sick people.

This may be true, but the way the media is going about it, anyone would think every single person who's had the coronavirus have ALL died. I mean, they're talking about lockdowns and making us believe that if the virus hits your town everyone in your town are goners.

I mean, can you blame people like me for being so paranoid? I'm dreading the day when the first case is reported in my town. I'll be afraid to touch anything in public without having to keep washing my hands.
