Some COVID ramblings
International borders can fully open back up
Schools can go back to operating normally
People that live in supported living agencies can go back to their day programs
Sports leagues can go on with fans at games at full capacity
Masks won’t be as big of a deal as they are now
That all that and all the other things that are part of the “new normal” will be over with by next summer.

If by international borders opening up you’re talking about the Canadian border.. don’t count on it happenin any time soon.
1) Covid is completely out of control in your country and we don’t need any more imported cases than we’re getting via air travel.
2) You really think Canada’s going to open it’s border to a country at civil war? I kinda think once the shooting starts that Canada’s going to just keep the border closed to prevent militia members from spilling violence over into Canada.

I meant the ability to travel to ANY country. Remember, lots of families continue to be separated in different countries as this continues. On another note, the Toronto Blue Jays were barred from playing in Toronto this year and are instead playing at a minor league stadium in Buffalo, NY. I’m sure some players on that team have family in Canada themselves. It would be a disgrace if anyone in charge of making travel restriction decisions had your mindset.

It should be noted that COVID cases in the U.S. have actually gone down substantially.
Even here in Houston, positivity rates dropped from 26% in early August to 7% now. And Texas stayed locked down for a very short amount of time.
@CBB: Do you know if they’re going to reschedule the Field of Dreams game when all of this blows over?

You mean the mindset that public health takes priority over travel wishes?

I think i understand how you feel. I am already sick of this virus but I know ignoring it and pretending it's over won't make it go away.

I think that when a traveler arrives in the country they're visiting, they should be tested immediately, and if they test negative, they can be allowed in. If they test positive, they should quarantine for 14 days.
Or they can be tested here, and if they test negative, they receive a certificate of their negative test that they can show to officials in the country they're visiting. If they test positive, they should self-isolate at home.
Once in, so long as they follow the health guidelines, everything should be good.

..we’re in the midst of a global pandemic and the USA has Not done the work necessary to slow the spread and make travel relatively safe (for the people in destinations outside the USA) soooo, that’s why you can’t have nice things - like the freedom to travel. No, not You, personally.. you Collectively. Thank your president for his “leadership,” on this issue that’s yielded these fun fun results for everyone.
Trust me, Canada and every other country Wants your American tourist dollars. We’d all be happy to accept your funds. But we don’t want the USA’s covid problem.

I'm just annoyed about this whole controlment thing. Now the UK government wants neighbours to snitch on each other if they are seen with more than 6 people at their house. Yes I know this may sound like a fantastic idea to stop social gatherings, but I don't think it is. And even people I know who are at high risk and were frightened of the virus before are actually starting to think that this is all becoming one, big dictatorship. I know people can't say anything any more these days (political correctness), but now people can't DO anything any more either. It's like normal things people have been doing for centuries have become illegal now, everybody's freedom has been taken away, and now everyone feels like they are being watched and dictated.
And another thing - there's going to be a lot of people going to work aware that they have mild symptoms of COVID, because not everyone can get a test and not all companies are paying people to self-isolate, and people aren't going to keep having time off work every time they do a cough or a sneeze. Also the thought of the whole workplace shutting down for 2 weeks puts a lot of people off letting on about their possible COVID symptoms and will turn up for work as normal (unless they are coughing a lot, but not everyone has a cough if they get COVID, they may be barely symptomatic but still potential carriers).
I know a person who works in a small store, and she come down with an ear infection, including the symptom of fever, plus she's prone to ear infections. She couldn't get a test straight away, so her work not only forced her to stay home until she knew for sure, but also stopped all the other workers from coming in, closed the shop and done a 5-hour deep clean in the small store. And nobody was going to get paid even if she did turn out to have COVID and they all had to stay home for 2 weeks. She was on a long waiting-list for the nearest place to her that does tests, and she's only just got the results today saying that she was tested negative. She had phoned the doctors first to ask for antibiotics for her ear, but they said that they couldn't allow her to take antibiotics until she's sure that it is an ear infection and not COVID (because of the high temperature).
Honestly, it's all getting really ridiculous. So this is why many people with no visible symptoms, or people who live in the same household as someone with symptoms, are going to keep quiet and carry on their normal lives, to avoid all this.
I mean, I work at a bus depot, as a bus cleaner. If I had any sort of symptom that could or could not be COVID, and could not get a test, that will mean that everyone working at the depot will have to be off for 2 weeks (most probably unpaid), which will mean there will be no-one to run the bus services that are basically essential, or if it is just my department that has to stay away for 14 days then that will mean that the buses won't get cleaned and disinfected.
So what are most people with no visible symptoms going to do? Keep quiet and go to work, unless they have more pronounced symptoms or are ill. But I'm talking about the vast majority of people who get COVID that don't have symptoms.
I'm NOT saying that's what they should do, I'm just saying that's what many people ARE going to do.

^You're welcome. ![]()
^^We’re asked to report large gatherings now as well. Fines for attendees are $200 I think and for organizers of parties $2000. I will gladly report any I’m aware of - that’s where this thing is spreading & we don’t need to let it get completely out of control like South of the border.

We, the entire planet, no countries, no towns, no households, are in the middle of a worldwide plague.
We MUST follow the rules if we are to survive.
We have no sure cure, no vaccine, no prevention but avoidance.
So we cannot attend crowded churches, schools, rallies, sports events, entertainment events, crowded vacation sites.
We know this.
Google ‘Sturgess’.
Today an outbreak was traced to a chiropractor’s office. 90-plus people infected.
We MUST accept the distancing, and the masks, or serious police action will result.
The authorities have no other choice.

^We can't go on like this indefinitely - life has to go on. South Africa has a rather high recovery rate to date and is moving to level One. We can attend gatherings, but at 50% of regular capacity that a venue would normally accommodate. They have also set a limit of 250 people for indoors and 500 for outdoor events at this stage.
We're required to mask up when going to the shopping malls and other public places.
We must needs be mindful of the elderly in our midst - parents etc - but can't indefinitely suspend our social activities. I believe in basic caution but not to panic.

I do not support panicky communication, or irresponsible repetition of unproven claims regarding infection or death rate.
However, time and again, outbreaks have been traced to parties, weddings, large get-togethers where people KNEW what they were doing, KNEW what they were risking.
If someone goes to an event that is crowded, masks and distancing is not supervised, any or all can bring that disease to their homes, their jobs, stores they visit, buses they ride, people they pass closely on the street.
We cannot re-open schools, churches, restaurants as they were.
It is too dangerous.
Here in California, many/most restaurants have outside tents which seem to be working.

I hope they make speedy progress with an antidote or vaccine - they're moving too slowly despite presumably having sufficient resources at their disposal!
I don't have any silly virus conspiracy theories yet wouldn't want to be vaccinated since I hate jabs and injections! Had enough of those as a kid...
There are limitations to when you can wear masks - you can't do so while eating, drinking, smoking or having your hair cut, washed or styled - neither while singing in church (or so I would imagine...)
