Now that the Trumpster is in the dumpster America can start to recover.

I usually consider myself a - mostly - down-to-earth individual, but I too feel like rejoicing right now.

Back in the autumn of 2016, I was planning to go to my first vacation to New York - and my first trip to the US. I had bought two history books about NYC and was beginning to plan how to visit all those historical and cultural landmarks in the city (and of course Lombardi's - Jon Stewarts favourite pizza joint).

And I honestly believed that the commonly held principles of Western civilization were so entrenched, that the lessons from demagogues of the past had been so thoroughly learned, and that the ideals of the US itself were so embraced by its citizens... that a man like Donald John Trump would never become president of the United States of America.

All my naive illusions were shattered on 8 November 2016, when Trump was elected president. I packed those books away, cancelled all those vacation plans, and basically rage quit WrongPlanet for an entire year.

... now, where *did* I put those books?

My feelings about Trump were pretty neutral.
There was some good and there was some bad.
I didn't care about his personality much, just the bottom line of how his administration ran the country.
Which all in all, considering he had no political experience, wasn't all that bad.

I feel weirdly happy about it considering it's in America & I don't even agree with Biden much.

It's mostly the hope of a domino effect tbh.

America is more powerful than here so will be able to play hardball and get our politicians to do things like soft border in Ireland etc.
