It used to be that Amazon beat the prices of the brick and mortar competitors.
Now Amazon’s prices are no longer lower but mostly their prices are about the same or higher.
This happened as they shut down their biggest competitors and adopted the free shipping “bait” on most things or with minimum restrictions.
They have also stopped instantly posting the lowest priced item in a search but instead promote the item on which they make the most profit.
They study the trends of everything they are selling and then add new items in order to beat the prices of their independent sellers on popular, high selling items so those partners lose sales.
Before the pandemic came along I was working at an Amazon warehouse. I applied as I was curious to see how their system worked. I found I really enjoyed the work because it’s stress free to me and I was able to find my niche in a fast moving but safer area. There are A LOT of accidents and injuries happening to the employees that never gets talked about much.
The VAST majority of Amazon employees are Forced to accept part time work.
You are forbidden from working over 29 hours per week for most of the year except for brief periods when there is a surge in business.
No one gets healthcare until you become a manager and there are very few of those per warehouse versus massive numbers of part timers.
They have a system of never using a loudspeaker so no one can hear when it’s break time. So people just literally try to holler over all the machinery and people working. There is a microphone available but they refuse to use it for this purpose.
They don’t even offer the legally mandated break for the overnight shift.
Noone complains because they can’t afford to lose their job. That’s the same reason no one can unionize, they will fire you in a millisecond.
I quit when my kids asked me to because of covid.
I think Amazon should be forced to provide maximum healthcare and full time hours for all. Their profits are disgusting.

I think they should inactivate the whole Amazon site just for a few months when the non-essential stores reopen, so that everyone will have no choice but to spend money in the stores and raise the profit in the community.

f**k Amazon.

Last week I got a sealed Amazon padded envelope package with absolutely nothing inside. Not even a speck of dust.

I hate Amazon in many, many more ways than one. Believe me, oyu're not alone.

I just feel so angry that some of my favourite stores are gone. Amazon is taking everything away from us, and yet people think it's so wonderful.

I mean, say if they invented a tablet that replaced a meal of your choice and included the taste, it would most probably affect food stores and put an end to cooking. But I would hate that. I like eating meals, even though I dislike cooking.

Same with shopping. Ordering anything in the world from the click of a button does not give the same satisfaction as actually going to the shops, despite hating the crowds.

Every day, the idea of having to interact physically with people is becoming more of an anachronism, thanks to the internet-techno-government industrial complex.

Amazon just sucks. It has always sucked. You can’t find anything when you try to search for it and half the stuff is crazy expensive. eBay forever. Or goodwill. I miss the old internet when people had fan sites full of goodies and movies had viral marketing campaigns. Heck the space jam website is still up. Same as the websites for Jurassic park and the lost world are Still up. YouTube was all about posting funny vids not trying to make money.

Ironically, in my area some tiny stores at markets and shopping centers are thriving because their owners found some interesting niche, like board games, puzzles, DIY electronics or crafts and resell stuff ordered from amazon or ebay.

If owners are passionate and interesting people, a little community grows around their shops and every time I visit I see some regulars doing something interesting there.

I agree about the YouTube thing. A lot of people spend half their videos going on and on like, "don't forget to like this video, subscribe for new content every day, and don't forget to visit my Instagram account, the link is in the description below, also check out my latest blog which is also in the description below and if you haven't seen my previous blogs about A and B then there's also a link to those in the description, and tell us what you think of this video in the comments below and if you have any new ideas then feel free to post them in the comments...." Ahh, it just goes on and on and it actually deters me from watching their video. If I'm that interested in a video or channel or whatever then I'd automatically go to the description and click their links, also if I wanted to like and subscribe then that's also what I'll do* - I don't like listening to several minutes of it in each video, I end up skip through it which is annoying.

*I don't actually subscribe to stuff because I don't like being bombarded with new content all the time, even if I like what I subscribed to. The more I'm bombarded with stuff the more I grow tired of it. But if I wanted to then I would.

I live in a remote area so I like online shopping and having it delivered to my door.I use Walmart more than Amazon, faster delivery, cheaper and better packaged.It’s still evil but better than driving two hours round trip and then having to drive all over town to shop.
I do use Amazon for EBT ( food stamp) purchases.
Many small downtown business were hurt by these mega companies but some downtown areas are being revitalized.Coffe shops, micro-breweries and neat little shops and cafes.Attractive landscaping , music events, craft shows and farmers markets all help the downtown area, or it did pre-COVID.

Now it's open again, I'm trying to support the high street to the best of my limited funds. When I do order something online for myself or my friends, I favour independant businesses, business that have real-world shops, and best of all a combination of both. For example, there's a small bookshop in my town that now has its own web store. Unfortunately, my immediate family is locked into Amazon wishlists for birthdays and Christmas, and my periodic attempts to move away from that keep failing.

Also, now they've killed off half the competition, Amazon are getting progressively worse at their job. Deliveries are handled by the cheapest firms they can find, which are also the least competant. Product listings have become inaccurate and borderline illiterate. Searches and recommendations turn up tons of products that are substandard or just plain fraudulent. Amazon Marketplace is full of fly-by-night sellers, and price-fixing algorithms create ludicrously huge changes in price. It's like they don't need to try anymore because no-one ever thinks of buying elsewhere. Plus, the way they constantly try to trick you into accidentally signing up for Prime should be illegal.

Well in Victoria Australia they had no problems shutting down all the small businesses but giving "special exemptions" to their big business mates. This kind of thing was done all over the world.

Not if we create enough foodies first!
