Do people still like me? Not asking for help, just reassure
Do you ever play Guitar Hero, or those videos with tabs? (Can't remember what they're called).
They look really fun. They almost make me wanna play. I have a collection of Fenders and Gibsons here in our music studio, some bass guitars and even a sitar. Maybe I'll try if you do?

I hope you can play the song really loud on repeat, and play guitar, and start to feel a little better.
My mind keeps telling me people don’t want me to have a girlfriend after I post about having a depression spell but next time it happens, should I just tell my mind to stop telling me that?
I actually can play a Black Flag song except for the guitar solo. It’s this one:

I use this site as well as app. I generally rely on the Power Tabs but I notice sometimes they aren’t exactly correct or they won’t play the full song.
Do you even like playing guitar? If you actually like playing it doesn’t matter if you’re not a professional. There is no way you could be as bad as I am at playing. My brother said I sucked at playing guitar and he even yelled it when he said it. It hurt my feelings and I don’t even bother playing anymore.
Thank you, Sarah.
I liked it more when I actually made some progress and occasionally got to show someone what I could do but whenever I hit a wall and saw someone outperforming me, I felt gutted. I am sorry your brother made you stop. My older brother did that to me involving the piano but it was also because I can’t read sheet music to save my life. It’s related to my struggles with math.

I'm sure your playing isn't terrible either and I'm sorry he ruined it for you. I hope you're able to take another crack at it too.
I'm probably worse than either of you but I won't get any better by giving up.
Hey thanks! Maybe I will try again!! I think my brother was also mad at me because I had mental problems and was being a b***h all the time. He may have just been frustrated with me.

I played Guitar Hero many years ago. The last music games I’ve played were Japanese music games at the Japanese style arcade in Austin before the lockdowns happened but they don’t play like Guitar Hero. Tabs can be printed on paper or played online as power tabs.
Doing other things like Isabella said might actually lead you to dating opportunities. I have total faith in you and I strongly believe that you will find the perfect girl one of these days.
Will it help if I told you how I met my boyfriend? I was becoming depressed like you, thinking that I'd never get a boyfriend. Then one day I got on the bus to meet a friend, and the driver asked me out! I'd seen him a few times driving on this particular bus route and we just got chatting. Now, almost 7 years later, we're still together and living together. We would be married but every time we start to plan a wedding there goes another lockdown!
So basically, I became someone's girlfriend when I least expected it! And it was all because of getting the bus, to which my uncle once said to me, "you should get a car - you'll never meet people on a bus." How wrong was he?
So go for it, Marknis! It may not be today, it may not be tomorrow, but there is definitely hope for you. Good things come to those that wait!

Sadly, the girls at school generally didn’t like what I was interested in. They thought rock music was “noise” or “devil music”. They actually thought Ozzy Osbourne was “whacked in the head” but fawned over the rappers who did drugs. One girl even told me she thought rock music was “gay”. My passion for it didn’t make them interested in me but dislike me instead.
Women I encounter generally at the library prefer country music or CCM, books by Danielle Steel and Janet Evanovich, and items for their kids. My interests in dinosaurs, science fiction, mythology, alternative music, comics, anime, manga, and video games makes them think I am “weird”.

Omg you should move then. I know you said you couldn’t but I seriously think if you had a change of scenery it might help.
If those girls just gave the type of music you’re into a chance, they might like it themselves. But anyway, they are probably just listening to whatever is being fed to them by the media.
My boyfriend is into rock music and I hate rock music (well, most rock music like Zeppelin and ACDC, but I like Queen). Also we don't like the same movies either. He likes James Bond and Thunderbirds (BORING!! !) and I like dramas like TV soaps that involve a lot of social interaction and emotion. I love shopping, he doesn't so much. He prefers watching TV, which I hardly do at all.
We have a lot of differences but funnily enough we still get on very well and have become soulmates, and we always find things to talk about.

Please. Sometimes parts of your mind work to sabotage the parts that are still striving. Depression works that way and that's how it slowly steals your life from you.

Yeah, it's frustrating because if you can't learn by ear (which I can't) you're at the mercy of someone else's best guesses. I don't bother learning too many songs by other people besides figuring out the part of a riff that catches my ear.
Sorta like you've described I find it easy to get caught up on comparing myself to others and feeling discouraged when I don't measure up. I've had to really train myself to shut that voice up because ultimately the music I'd like to make doesn't require being a virtuoso and getting distracted and discouraged because most people play circles around me after a year or two is just that, a distraction and needless source of discouragement.
Out of curiosity, how well is your gear suited for what you want to do? A few months back I replaced some of the gear I had been using with stuff that's a little closer to what I always had in mind. It didn't make me a better player but there's something really satisfying about playing through that same mix of a Crate GX and a VS8100 that showed up on lots of old slam and grindcore albums and defined my taste in guitar tone as a kid.
Adding a noise gate made a big deal too because unless I'm playing with feedback like Kurt or Thurston I find noise pretty distracting. My current setup won't feedback unless I turn the gates off. By fixing both of those issues it's a lot easier to focus on playing.
Not sure if any of that is relevant to your struggles with motivation but it's helped me a bit.
That's reasonable. Even the most supportive people have moments where they just can't f*****g stand something. It doesn't mean they're being reasonable in that moment.
I'm sure whether he's actively supportive or not he wasn't intending to ruin the instrument for you because he was having a hissy fit.

Mark, I think it’s pretty cool you are into mythology. I don’t pay much attention to anime but if someone were to show me a good series then there you go. I’d probably get hooked.
I met my friends boyfriend way back and he was a metal head. I remember saying I thought the Beatles sucked when I had no idea what I was talking about back then. All he had to say is “They’re actually pretty good.” And he looked at me seriously. I took the hint then that I was uncultured. Sadly these girls you’re talking about, might not get it if you try convincing them that what you’re into is good. But you could at least try convincing them.
