And being a theoretical physicist - whoa! A "typical" professional in my field is a Jew born in USSR, living in the US If only I played violin or piano instead of guitar, the picture would have been perfect.
Somehow I find the "Jewish" side of US culture the most relatable.

There is certainly a great intellectual tradition amongst some Ashkenazi Jews who migrated to the United States during the late 19th and 20th centuries. Many of these people became quite secular in their religious outlook. Many even became atheists.

On balance, I find the ideas of these folks to be more palatable than most. There’s obviously both good and bad in them, so my admiration is not all-encompassing.

I feel, to a certain extent, that I am a product of this “tradition.” My aim is to exemplify the idealistic and expansive aspects of this intellectual tradition, without exemplifying its exclusionary aspects.

reading only the headline, and before reading the first post, I immediately thought of the few Istaeli students I worked with when studying and teaching in tje UK.
What I learned from one of them was that she was basically raised to believe the whole world is quite antisemitic and that it really confused her when she came to the UK at 27 that people she encountered just couldn't care less.

It's obviously different with American Jews in the US. They probably know what to expect...

I haven’t experienced much angry anti-Semitism in my life. I’ve been stereotyped, though.

I got called "k*e" often by schoolyard bullies. Just "Microagressions" as an adult. People that know that I am Jewish think I am smarter than I am. I can be completely fumbling around for an answer and people say how brilliant the remark is. If people assume there are no Jews around I will occasionally overhear "Jew you down" or "Jewish Lightning".

People have made Antisemetic jokes about me being a finance bro and being so into finances and wanting to be a banker and financier and the subject of taxes and investing and economics but I am not jewish but I could see how they could mistake me as one but I am really Northern and Western European ancestry not jewish.I have a respect for the Jewish people for being so resilent over time despite all their hardships.
