I don't but the optician said I could go blind in the future if I don't wear glasses all the time now. I don't want that.

Red flag to me. It makes no sense to me that uncorrected astigmatism would cause somebody to go blind. Before you do anything you should probably try to get an appointment with an ophthalmologist even if you have to wait two years to see them.

I just think this optician wants to take advantage of you to line their pockets.

I've been wearing glasses since I was 18. Also when you have bad eye sight, they give you wrinkles around your eyes and give you furrow lines due to squinting so glasses keep you from getting these wrinkles sooner.

I need to get glasses and then get used to wearing them all the time. :nerdy:

I've worn them since age eight but I happen to think that optician is scamming Joe.

This doctor that prescribed your glasses seems a bit off. Unless you have some form of progressive eye disease then you will be fine not wearing glasses. You won’t go blind.
Astigmatism is not progressive.

I had the same thought.

Another reason why I don't want to wear glasses is because they'll fog up when I have a mask on, and I still like to wear my mask.

It is a pain in the neck, yes.

There are anti-fog products on the market that you can apply to glasses to reduce that problem. Cat Crap is one. Odd name, but it does work. I've used it in the past.

A family member has a cat.
I don't need to buy it.
I'll get onto it right away!

I don't think that'll work. But give it a try and let us know.

When I'm like in my 50s I will wear glasses because nearly everyone I know over the age of 50 need glasses. But I don't know many people at all under the age of about 45 who wear glasses. Oh, I think one of my cousins wear glasses and she's NT.

I think I'm just nervous of glasses giving off the wrong vibes with me when out in public, like I might look more Aspie or something (not saying glasses make everyone look different but I worry that they might do me). I don't really want to look like a nerd because I am most certainly NOT a nerd.

You don't see many young, pretty celebrities on TV wearing glasses. Maybe male celebrities more but not many females under the age of 50.

Maybe I misheard the optician about becoming blind, but she said something like if I don't wear glasses now my eyes won't be able to respond to glasses later on in life. Does that mean going blind?

Don’t wear them if they make you uncomfortable. Do be aware that others around you may see things a little more clearly but its not a big deal.
Go to the eye doc next year and see for yourself if anything has changed.
No, not responding to a corrective lens is not the same as going blind. But still sounds off.
Your eyes will age the same as everyone else’s - old eyes do respond to correction - a lot of old people finally give in and start wearing glasses.

If you feel like trying out a pair of glasses in the privacy of your own home, you can buy some and never wear them outside, unless you find they really make a difference.
Many optometrists like to sell glasses. They charge a fortune but you can get fine ones for a lot less cost by getting a copy of your prescription and buying online.

I was told I need new glasses but the frames I had were not suitable for the new lenses.
I walked out only paying for the test.
I went to another optometrist after that attempted ripoff. 8)

a good thing about my glasses circa 2017, is that they enabled me to see that i had a relative of AMD in my right eye, previous to this my un-adjusted eyesight was so bad that i didn't notice the symptoms until almost too late. i chose "birth control glasses" -

because they didn't have those nasty uncomfortable little "nose feet" that enable the glasses to rest upon the bridge of the nose, but instead use molded-in large-footprint nose supports that are far more comfortable for extended wearing.
after my glasses, i have 20/15 vision in both eyes [after treatment for my right eye]. my N-95 mask resists fogging my glasses due to its control of breath leakage around the nose area.

Rimless and shallow lenses glasses would be very light.

but they still have those uncomfortably small-footprint nose feet on them. if only SOMEBODY would make the metal frame ones with large footprint nose rests on them.
