At least you haven't given up, and are pursuing other avenues.

Have you gotten past "journeyman" yet?

Officially, no. I still need to log more union hours and complete another level of school to learn how to use the machine tools. That could be this November if I go back to it full time again.

But, I did do a lot of unofficial hours with a residential contractor over the last year or so during covid and improved some skills. My work looks better than some Journeymen. My biggest constraint is speed - I'm slow moving, too picky and detail oriented as I see flaws no one else will and can't resist correcting them ALL. I think I can improve upon speed and pickiness.

I also wonder if the physical training I've done recently that's strengthening my back and shoulders differently might help my arms/shoulders move more fluidly and quickly over time, too, vs some of the awkward motion patterns I was set in. Another reason I don't want to give up my very expensive training.. it's training some of the awkward autistic/dyspraxia movements and restrictions out of my body that I've done my whole life and didn't realize I even did OR that it was possible to change by 'waking up,' muscle chains that don't even fire.

goldfish, I know you are/were proud of your achievements, and that you were eager to share them here. Even though I view WP as a support forum more than a neutral meeting place, there's sometimes a lot of negativity here and though of course negative events are a part of life, there are positive things as well that we should acknowledge, share and be happy with. I think you did a good part of that.

In any case, I once had a quote by Rocky above my workplace. "You, me, nobody is going to hit as hard as life. But it ain't about how hard you hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward."

I'm sure you can get your life rolling in the direction you want, soon.

Had a 2 hour 12 min phone convo with one of my friend's long term employees this morning. I was able to relay a lot of business info he and others need to know for their own jobs/careers, as well as some personal things etc. I feel good about reaching out and having that conversation - helping him/them out with some stuff I know vs. knowing I could make a difference in their careers and keeping info to myself. It was all well received and appreciated. 8)

That Rocky quote is actually a pretty good quote.

Agreed.

I can hear it in his voice when I read it, too. 8)
