So it looks like you could be paying even more on top Joe. I mean you're in a good position to be able to pay more with not having anything else to spend your hard earned money on.

Suppose this is the most realistic way of looking at it I suppose.

But then why make it headlines on the internet if it's something that's basically happening anyway, like it's a new thing that's going to ruffle a few feathers?

I think it's because lots of people on Facebook were ranting about it, and if other people believe things then I will think it's real too.

Also it's quite valid for me to react like this because I'm already sensitive about not having a baby and this just put the tin hat on. My boyfriend has a low sperm count now and I am too much like a nervous wreck to be able to carry a baby inside me for 9 months and give birth to it. And I'm not just going to have a baby because of societal pressure, although I do get broody from time to time. I have pets instead, which helps me feel like a mother to babies, but hearing this tax the childless women just felt like fate was laughing in my face.

So a little understanding was all I was asking for in this thread, and reassurance. You can understand how a woman at child bearing age will feel when first seeing that.

That article sounds more like a rant than factual. I haven't actually seen any proof articles of this happening, and from what I have read when researching it, loads of people are as enraged as I am about it.

I don't see how taxing will make any difference anyway.

It's a free country, people should have the right to choose, and some people (those that cannot have children) can't even choose but will be taxed for it.

Whoever came up with this suggestion needs his or her head tested or failing that needs to be publicly named and shamed. I'm sorry but I see no positivity or sense in this at all.

It's really made me feel anxious, depressed and angry, all in one. This is brilliant for my mental health.
If I was 82 I'd be having a heart attack now from the shock and disgust of this.

People have to stop helping the tabloids remain in business by believing every article that’s ever written in them.

If a tabloid article stated that buildings will burn down if the temperature rises to 40 Celsius, would you believe it?

That will and does cause forest fires and when the burning trees get close enough to buildings then they burn too. Can and has happened.

This can happen if the temperature is, say, in the 60s.

I'm talking about 104-degree temperatures, in and of themselves, causing buildings to burn.

Yes I probably would, because that was my anxiety about the heatwave coming. 8)

I've been looking at the forecasts. The highest temperature forecast for all the UK is 34 Celsius (93 Fahrenheit)----and that's for Tuesday, the 19th.

Certainly very hot for the UK----about 10-15 Celsius hotter than normal--but not really hotter than it's been in other recent heatwaves.

If you want reassuring, imagine how many high court enforcement officers will be dog piled and beaten into a bloody pulp by friends and family members for knocking on the door of disabled people asking for backdated "childless tax".

If someone knocked on my door asking me for thousands of pounds for not having kids they would be introduced to a knuckle sandwich with a side of size 10s. I'm sure I will be far from alone on introducing bailiffs to the menu too.

Guess what!

It seems as if the heatwave in the UK will last only two days. It's supposed to be 34 Celsius in SE London on the 19th, but a maximum of only 24 is forecast for the 20th.

I think that sometimes I have seen an article come up on Facebook and I thought "I'm not going to believe it this time", only to see it being mentioned as headlines on the TV news, so I'm then like "oh, so it is true then". I know the TV news can lie but it's still a bit more reliable than BS tabloids that pop up on Facebook or even in the newspapers.

I don't believe everything that people share on Facebook though. For example, back in the summer of 2020 someone shared a news article on Facebook saying that covid isn't a contagious disease. That's one thing I didn't believe! So I'm not entirely stupid. :P

It was 24 Celsius this morning, and I shivered! I do love the heat. I was only anxious because of how it might affect people and animals, and fires, that sort of thing. Also I can't sleep on hot nights even with 2 fans blowing. But otherwise I do like the heat.

It's the cold I don't like.
