This. Also, it's easier to actually spot the person when you're trying to meet them in a public place if you've seen their face before.

They have exchanged pictures. I'm just concerned about the lack of video chatting because it's easy enough to do these days with even a simple smartphone and they've been dating at least a few months.

If she doesn't want you or her family tracking her of following on social media, etc. Tell her to provide a trusted friend with her itinerary. Beyond that, there isn't much you can do.

For what its worth, I've flown to meet several people I've met via the internet and had a handful fly out out visit me and I'm still here to tell the tale. Whenever I meet someone new, I leave all of my contact info with a friend and leave a scheduled posting that will post the relevant information IF I don't delete it in a certain number of hours on arrival.

I agree with your concerns, unless they're just both uncomfortable with video chatting.
