Regardless of whether it was assault or not, I want to know why the story is about the nuns falling pregnant (e.g., having sex), when it doesn't seem to be about the men who contributed. Chances are they also had a vow of celibacy, but somehow it's only the women who are being shamed for it.

How do you know that the men that...laid them...werent laymen? (pun unavoidable).

Maybe the population that they missionized to included Rico Suave.

Granted I am a bit biased...I tend to assume that priests are only interested in underage boys, and not in adult woman. But still...they are adult. Capable of consent.

But thats what the investigation is for. Partially to see if priests knocked them up or not.

I'm not commenting more on these two nuns because I don't know one way or another. I think it's sad this has made the news. If no abuse occurred, they are just two women who got pregnant. Shocking.

In February this year, the women's magazine of the Church's newspaper L'Osservatore Romano, reported on several cases of sexual abuse on nuns by clergymen. Several children had also been conceived, and some religious sisters had been forced to have abortions.

Pope Francis ended up confirming the accusations were correct: "It is true. There are priests and bishops that have done that."

God is everywhere, duh!!

Plus we're all God.. individual fractions of a Universal consciousness dipping out of the ether for a vacation of a human experience for a little while before we return to the collective energy from where we came from and will come from again when we cycle back through for another human & chronological experience again.

To quote from the bible on matters of adultery and stoning poor women John 8:7 He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

The catholic church has been awfully flexible toward specific transgressions of thousands of priests. I am sure they can spare some of their "abundant" charity towards these two nuns.

I said that this was sad that it made the news - mainstream news.

I don't GAF about the Catholic Church. They are not consistent in their charity in my experience. They tend to be more charitable to priests and bishops to try to avoid major scandals. I doubt they care that much about lowly nuns. They don't seem to care about children unless they are a collection of cells or a fetus.

Neither do I. My memory of catholic boarding school in the 1970s is the nuns were all very sincere, caring and nurturing. The priests on the other hand were weirdos (except the jesuits). Nuns and Jesuits were just expected to live monastic lives in prayer, I can't imagine this is an easy path.

The nuns in my grandmother's Catholic school were nasty and hit the kids with rulers when they got answers wrong to questions. (Yes, it was a different time.) The sample size is too small to make a judgment call about the entire demographic. I suspect that they are just like everybody else, except for, in general, being more sexually frustrated.

How would you biologically expect the story to be any differently reported? :?

How many of us actually see nuns in our daily lives to notice if two are pregnant? Why would anyone need to know outside the diocese? Why is it in the news unless it's for public shaming of the women (and possibly the men)?

I don't think it should be reported at all unless a crime was committed. Even then, unless there's a threat to public safety or a main figurehead of the church is complicit in some sort of coverup / scandal, I don't know why anyone's private affairs need to be made public.

If a report was deemed necessary for the public, I'd suggest something like: "Two unnamed nuns at an unnamed location fell pregnant. The church (and / or local LE), are investigating to ascertain the name of the father(s), and to determine if relations were consensual, coercive, or assault. DNA testing may be done as needed to determine paternity. The nuns are in the care of __________ hospital / nurses etc., and we endeavour to respect their privacy at this difficult time."

Probably newsworthy in the location where the article was written. And then articles run in syndication for clicks and profits because people like us read them.

This church is just in my neighborhood

https://www.northernexpress.com/news/fe ... childhood/

Quote:

...Sister Fran (not her real name) was their housemother, a plain and rather plump nun in her 20s. Each night, she’d kiss each boy on the forehead, but she’d kiss her favorite boys on the lips and tickle them. A couple of years ticked by and Jerry said her kisses grew longer as she “taught” him how to give her hickies all over her body...

...a 29-year-old nun had been luring Jerry into pleasuring her underneath her long black robes as she sat on the couch. The affair went into his eighth-grade year, when she confessed to him that she might be pregnant...

...I told everybody about it. All my young friends. They all knew. I told my parents, but nobody seemed to think much about it. My male friends, they’d say, ‘Oh that’s cool.’”...

...“We hid out along a beach until it got dark. The cops picked us up. Danny said, tell them, tell them! So I did. They told us to shut up. They said, ‘They’re trying to do what’s best for you kids. We’re going to take you back. Don’t talk that crazy talk any more.’ We got back. They beat us, they beat us real bad.

“They beat you so bad, you’d zone out and go somewhere else. One time I was beat so bad, I thought I’d fall on the floor from a heart attack. It was so bad, so long. I didn’t cry. I just looked at them,” he said.

Jerry said that at the same time he was being molested, another schoolmate was having sex with Sister Beth.
“They’d have day rooms, TV and games, and one big couch. Just he and me and the two sisters would sit on the couch, blankets on top of us. The other kids would sit in front of us four. They’d have nothing on under their robes and they’d say, ‘Turn around and watch TV.’”

Brian Anthony told the Grand Rapids Press that he also huddled with one of the two nuns under a blanket in the day room, while the other kids sat in front of them watching television. At the age of 12, he had sex “damn near every night,” in the housemother’s bedroom on the third floor...

Like, the "Rhythm Method"?  Even Catholics can be a little off-beat!

ImageBa-dum-TSHH!

Seriously, people still believe that a woman cannot get pregnant the first time she has unprotected sex with a man.

Do people really believe that?

My sex education was extremely rudimentary and even I knew that.

"When a man and woman love each other very much," something about egg meeting sperm. Also, once a man has had sex, he's going to start needing it. :| Maybe this should be its own thread.
