Why Do Neo-Nazis Keep Getting Arrested For Kiddie Porn?
From the article quoted by the OP:
Quote:
While a true data set of how many arrests on the far right have included CSAM or grooming isn’t available, a cursory glance at arrest reports shows it occurs frequently. However, how much this is truly a feature of the extreme right is hard to know.
According to experts, examples like these—and there are many more—are largely a function of the sheer prevalence of CSAM; neo-Nazis are disproportionately likely to have their electronic devices searched by law enforcement, and thus disproportionately likely to be charged with possessing CSAM, but no rigorous study suggests they’re disproportionately likely to possess it in the first place.

So apparently child porn is still commonplace and widely available, despite all the efforts to make it harder to find, e.g. more stringent policies on mainstream adult porn sites like PornHub? If so, that's disturbing news.
Googling for info on the current state of child porn law enforcement, I found:
- Child pornography prosecutions on the rise: Investigators are inundated with tips and the number of cases being prosecuted is nearly double that of just a few years ago, by Ali Ingersoll, Investigative Post, Feb 5, 2020.
- Inside the surveillance software tracking child porn offenders across the globe: The Child Protection System helps police triage child pornography cases. But as the system expands, it's facing growing privacy concerns, by Olivia Solon, NBC News, July 17, 2020.
The above articles are from 2020. The only relevant article I could easily and quickly find from 2023 was:
- Criminal cases point to troubling spread of computer-generated child pornography: SD attorney general plans to seek state-level ban as AI image generation grows, by John Hult, South Dakota Searchlight, July 24, 2023.
I might post some comments later, in a separate thread in the Adult section, about one or more of the above articles.
Be that as it may: VICE has apparently done the journalistically responsible thing by pointing out that child porn is not necessarily representative of the far right per se.
But there's another journalistically responsible disclaimer that the VICE News article should have contained, but didn't: namely, that the Order of the Nine Angles is not representative of Satanism.
Seems to me that it would be have been good to include statements from organizations like the Satanic Temple and the Church of Satan denouncing the ONA. I am concerned that an absence of such statements may fuel a revival of the "Satanic Ritual Abuse" scare, beyond the QAnon crowd.
Any (non-ONA) Satanists reading this may wish to complain to VICE News about this, and may also wish to complain to some of the article's sources:
- The Satanist Neo-Nazi Plot to Murder U.S. Soldiers by Ali Winston, Rolling Stone, June 5, 2022
- Satanism Drama Is Tearing Apart the Murderous Neo-Nazi Group Atomwaffen by Kelly Weill, The Daily Beast, Mar. 21, 2018
- Atomwaffen and the SIEGE parallax: how one neo-Nazi’s life’s work is fueling a younger generation, by the Southern Poverty Law Center, February 22, 2018. (See also the SPLC's page Atomwaffen Division.)
- The Order of Nine Angles, Institute for Strategic Dialogue.
- Order of Nine Angles: An Incubator of Terrorism, HOPE Not Hate.
Some other relevant articles I found just now:
- Neo-Nazi Satanist Cult Is a Terrorist Group, Feds Say by Ali Winston, Rolling Stone, July 6, 2022.
- The Order of Nine Angles, Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD), July 25, 2023.
Another person whom Satanists may want to contact is Spencer Sunshine, one of the experts mentioned in some of the above articles. It seems to me that he would likely be sympathetic to the Satanic Temple's concerns if he were to hear from them, given that he is also very concerned about far-right conspiracy theories.
Anyhow, the Order of the Nine Angles has been around for decades, explicitly advocating "human sacrifice" in the form of lynching. It has long surprised me how little attention the ONA has gotten from law enforcement, at least until recently. Sometimes I've wondered if the ONA founders are/were really police agent provocateurs, although the ONA belief system seems awfully elaborate for such a purpose. Anyhow, lo and behold, the above-linked Rolling Stone articles mention that one leading ONA figure -- though NOT any of the main founders -- is a longtime FBI informant.
