Putting an upper age limit to voting is like banning the over 60's from entering the lottery "Incase they win", with the theory that if they did win, the money would be wasted on them as they only have so many years to live... Is nonsense, just like putting an upper age limit to voting incase they vote for a party one does not like!

Why not ban everyone who voted for Labour in the last election from voting incase they influence the next General election... Is along the same lines as putting age limits... Is ok to put upper age limits on voting if one wants to have a dictatorship in government, as that is what will happen if one restricts the vote. Is like saying "All those in their 30's will be banned from voting in the next election incase they support the Green Party and force us into global warming!" Is a very similar warped logic!

If there is a restriction it needs to be those who are not UK residents, and anyone classed as a child, as children do not yet have real lifes experiences so will vote the same as whoever their favourite person tells them to vote for. (We need people to vote by making their own decisions, which is why in the past voting started at 24 years old, because 24 was the age when people had some life experience behind them. Now the elderly have more life experience behind them than most of us have, so it makes no sense whatsoever to restrict their voting! It is actually the opposite to common sense even if the odd one or two may not be so practical in their thinking...

I happen to think that a lot of young people are pretty switched on where politics are concerned

A few are. Others are easily prey to press manipulation.

On some level it would be nice if only informed people who care about the future could vote, but that standard could be easily manipulated to exclude whoever the power structure wishes to exclude so it's not realistic.

It'd be nice to exclude people who don't want any changes that might make things better for future generations but require them to accept change within their lifetimes, but it's not realistic because in practice it would be incredibly arbitrary.

So are older people, as demonstrated by the people who voted for Brexit or Donald Trump.

But they're also very sensitive of having their ignorance and susceptibility to manipulation noticed, I bet.

My dad gets irate. He loves thinking that “wokes” are overly sensitive snowflakes, but he sure flies off the handle when rational arguments or evidence is presented which conflicts with his views. I try to avoid those conversations now although he does try to bait me. It’s very tiresome.

That sensitivity seems to be typical of entitled gammons.

Yeah, and he’s gotten much worse in recent years because of all the far right nonsense he consumes. It all happily aligns with his religious views, so he won’t even consider the other side or look at the evidence because it’s automatically wrong in his eyes. Experience isn’t much good if it’s so ill-spent.

Why do you think Brexit voters were manipulated because here in the UK, all the main media news outlets kept cutting off anyone with Brexit views and was continually pushing the EU. It was so one sidedly manipulated it was hillarious!

Because I watched the entire thing, including all the dishonest campaigning used by the pro-Brexit side. If you have to lie to voters to get them to support your cause, that's manipulation.

Your perception of the way the UK media handled Brexit is very different from mine.

As I recall the vast majority of the print press was pro Brexit. I remember Farage being invited onto every BBC news panel despite him not being an elected official at the time. He also had a radio show on LBC.

Much of the pro-Brexit crowd were allowed to spread their disinformation in UK media and if anything it was remarkable what a poor job many journalists did at challenging them.
