It's jokes like these that keep Spongebob (and by extension, Nickelodeon) afloat. And boy do they deliver!

That only applies to the early seasons IMHO

I'm talking about why people continue to support the show in its current state

See, what has happened is when the show first started Nickelodeon poured so much resources into it to ensure success...but this created a dependancy on SpongeBob in the process which is of course BAD!! !

It isn't unlike dating, relationships and marriage because both involve the Sunk-Cost Fallacy & Imprisonment!

Now thanks to corruption by the Sunk-Cost Fallacy and their own damn foolish mistakes Nick has suddenly found themselves between a rock and a hard place!!

I believe what is actually going on here is Nickelodeon's own equivalent to the "should I stay or should I go?" dilemma in marriage

They just CANNOT decide what to do about SpongeBob SquarePants which has left them in an ambivalant state!

Also, the "resources" from viewers includes merchandise purchases and simply watching the show for MANY MANY years! !!

That created the Sunk-Cost Fallacy problem from the viewers' perspective

I am 100% well aware that this is all done from their free will BUT Nick successfully convinced them to buy the merchandise and watch the show for a long period of time!

And that is my point!!

On a semi-related note regarding SpongeBob SquarePants I will tell you one thing I do NOT like in the show:

The obsession with destroying personal property!! !

This can be seen in episodes such as The Slumber Party, Grooming Gary and New Leaf among MANY others I am sure

In "The Slumber Party" Mr. Krabs and SpongeBob are watching a movie where a bunch of unruly teenagers are breaking glass and shattering people's possessions

Spongie even comments on how wrong this behavior is in The Slumber Party by saying to Mr. Krabs that it must be horrible to invite someone over to your house just to treat your property with little respect

I agree 100% with him and he is 100% correct!! !

Moving on...

In "Grooming Gary" Gary purposely knocks over a table with a bunch of first-place, second-place and third-place ribbons & trophies in a fit of rage over being mistreated but I guess there was a legitimate reason for why he did that

And finally in "New Leaf" Mr. Krabs literally KNOCKS OVER SHELVES OF PLANKTON'S ITEMS & uses a freaking baseball bat to break said items which rightfully pisses off Plankton and causes him to bellow at the top of his lungs "GET OUT!! !! !!"

Oh, we can't forget the countless episodes where Squidward's clarinet gets destroyed

Why is this show so obsessed with destruction of property?!?

One possible theory I have been formulating is that Nickelodeon is a rebellious network which is reflected in their shows
