Well, a picture tells a thousand words, maybe the bible should have been in pictures.

My theologian friend thinks the antichrist will be of Roman/Italian descent, and quite possibly a pope.

Think about it: the papacy has slowly given the pope more godlikeness over the centuries, with such added attributes as infallibility, "Holy Father", the one who claims to offer salvation in partnership with Christ, functioning as the "Vicar of Christ", basically God on Earth. How far a leap would it really be for a future pope to say to the world during a televised mass -- say, the one that the whole world watches every Christmas, "You know what, folks? Basically, I am God." It wouldn't be that major of a shock to those who are used to reverencing him so far above all other men.

Or, one of the popes could be the "false prophet", the antichrist's official spokesman, and the man who introduces him.

Also, and as I've articulated in detail in another thread, the "whore of Babylon" written of in Revelation is clearly the Roman Catholic Church, based on all the traits given in that book.

Here's that previous post of mine, including those Revelation referrences:

Ragtime wrote:
The "whore of Babylon" Revelation speaks of is the Roman Catholic Church.
The correlations:
7 hills (Vatican city sits on seven hills, and so does the whore in Rev 17:9).
Scarlet and purple are the colors of their robes, as mentioned in Rev 18:16
Golden cup (the whore holds a golden cup, and Catholic canon law states that they must use a golden cup in the Mass), as mentioned in Rev 17:4.
The Council of Trent held that view -- that the Cath. Church was Revelation's "whore, which committed fornication with (we would say was "in bed with") all the kings of the earth" Rev 17-18.
The Pope medalion has a picture of a woman with a cup in her hand, as Rev's whore is described (in 17:4), and she is also described as being "drunk with the blood of saints" (see Christian martyrs like Tyndale, Cramner, Huss, Ridley, whom the Catholic Church burned at the stake for refusing to espouse various ridiculous doctrines).

For a very comprehensive list of the correlations, see Dave Hunt's book "A Woman Rides the Beast".

Nothing's more ignorant than antisemitism! Not even Christianity. Oh wait, Christianity is antisemitism.

Why on earth would you think the Jews would be so likely to mistake the antichrist as their messiah? That's quite possibly the dumbest thing that's been said in this forum.

Ragtime, you know I love ya... but... when you talk about the Catholic Church, your "facts" make me want to beat my head on the wall. You don't show any sign of knowing what infallibility means in the ecclesiastical sense of the word. If you're going to be obsessed about a subject, you should study it better. :x :x :x

EP... half this thread is totally kidding. Are you kidding, too?

Is that a papal decree or just bull sanctum?

Errrrr, never mind, then!

Antisemitism sets my brain on fire. I missed it. Sorry. I do wish people wouldn't joke about it, though.

Because they're still looking for him and he would have to be a Jew for them to accept him.

Jesus Christ, or rather Yeshua HaMasiach, is my Saviour and He's Jewish. How does it make me anti-SHemetic for me to think the final false messiah will be a Jew?

This is not anti Shemitism, nor racism, nor any type of ism. If I said I thought the antichrist were Italian would that be anti Romanticism?

Yes, he'd have to be a Jew for them to accept him, but that doesn't explain why you think the antichrist will be a Jew. Or why they'd mistake him for a messiah.

Jesus was a Jew, you're right. But I don't think that many people appreciate Him for His Jewishness. And His followers seem to have superceded his Jewishness with something else, something supposedly better.
