I was thinking maybe you can replace the old profile button or the name/link with a link to a personal autobiography
and portrait page, if of course operational issues such as bandwidth and storage allow for it.

I found the new stuff added to the profiles interesting.

What's with the new profile stats? Isn't that kind of private information?

As if it's anyone else's business how long another user has been on, how many page hits, and the length of their last visit.

The updated profile stats feel very intrusive to me.

I agree. It's a little spooky. I become very conscience of how long I'm logged on. Are you trying to limit the time spent on the site? I also don't like having concrete evidence people are ignoring me on WP as well as real life.

I don't have a problem with it, I find it kinda cool. I haven't logged off since... well, ever. 'd be interesting to see how long I've been on.

EDIT: Holy crap! I look at the time I've been on and it says 02:02:02!

I'm embarassed about how many posts I've made along with time. I'm afraid once people get a little curious and check my stats, they'll freak out and never look at me the same way again. I'm so ashamed of myself

People who are saying this is "interesting" or "cool" have no grasp on implication. Lol

Actually I like people with really large statistics.

And implications on posting count? Uhm... yeah, we get trolls who like to bait people who appear to be spammers... yeah... good plan there...

I think it's interesting the same way looking into people's front rooms before they pull the curtains in the evening is. Strangely intimate. Fascinating.

I agree that it is profoundly revealing info, which many might not feel comfortable with others being able to track. Almost my first reaction was to "hide" my "last on date" , though I have realised not much point if am on most days. It's the hits and duration which are most revealing.

Perhaps the biggest problem is that it is very ambiguous info, for instance, high "page hits" per hour logged on, as in my case, and others a, b, and c, could suggest that are totally flitty, desperate, or hyper, or a very fast reader interested in lots of things, whereas low page hits, like x, y, and z, might mean either that you only bother with a few things or are a very slow reader, or that you are deeply focussed.

Also realised that time spent reading material at/through links in posts shows up as activity on wp, whereas actually it is somewhere else entirely.

"Time on per day" could be alarming for some, recalling efforts to restrict oneself in any addiction or bad habit.

I think that although it is fascinating sociological material it might be better kept to the owners of the site. Or displayed entirely at one's own discretion. It might indeed change people's use of wp otherwise, as someone said..

Having said that I'd love to know how much time people actually spend "posting" as opposed to logged on! :)

 Great now we're sociological experiments.

Where's my spinning wheel and feeding tube? :albino:

That's my point. That it is like being observed, by everybody else if they wish. Perhaps not reassuring or comfortable. :?

Ok, I'll overview the new statistics available (big thanks to MissConstrue for, err, 'donating' her stats for this copy/paste. Don't worry, I got rid of the numbers!).

Last Visit: I think this is the most risky one out of the new ones, in tandem with Last Visit Length. It's an especially handy feature for trolls and spammers who want to lurk here for a while and figure out when a mod is on or offline, gathering statistics, and striking when the mods are at work or asleep.

Total Online: Can't see anything too bad coming out of this one. Considering that I never click Log Out, my numbers would be inaccurate and REALLY high.

Last Visit Length: Explained already.

# visits: Just a fun statistic as far as I can tell

# page hits: I can't tell if this is for Profile Page or for all Threads created, but can't imagine anything harmful out of it.

DISCLAMER: All of the above is personal opinion, so no slack please people. Oh, ok, that makes this disclaimer a personal opinion too. Heh.
