But avoidance is ignorance. The opposite of being open minded is ignorance, the base word of ignorance is ignore. If theyr not strong enough to deal with the facts, theyr not strong enough to have an open mind. So basically theyr weak-willed, and therefore, weak-minded, ignorant people.
Problem is when people accept some corn-fed world view, be it religious, political, sociological, or whatever, and they become so attached to it that theyr not willing to admit this world view might be wrong in some areas. No ideology is 100% correct, they've all got faults. Their world view could be a religion like christianity or islam, or it could be a political ideology like political correctness, or even secular sociological "norms" that nearly everyone follows irreguardless of their group identity.
People need to stop using human nature as a crutch too, "Oh the clerk behind the counter has some nice shoes, let me go over there and rob him for his shoes; after all, it's only human nature" People use this as an excuse to not even try to give a damn about the rights and well being of their fellow human being.

Bad things happen. People die, suffer, and many other evil injustices go on. But so do many good things. It's not to be viewed in black and white, either.

Ignorance can be a defence mechanism.

What is human nature, anyway? I think that the term has become so warped by technology and sentience, that there is no such thing as "human nature", but instincts and impulses, some neccessary for individual and group survival, and some that are not to be acted upon in such a manner, e.g the desire to obtain something that you do not need by theft, to increase social standing, feeling of self worth, .etc. That is inexcusable.

People need to face the facts and history..
