Up until lately this never happened to me. In high school I would go to the bathroom whenever I needed to, and often when I didn't need to (just to do a lap through the halls for exercise). And at home I never tried to ignore it. But I've gotten into writing fiction lately, and I'm often hooked by some scenes and have to write as fast as I possibly can just to get the words down on the page. In these situations I hold it for as long as I have to.

I always keep an empty coca-cola bottle with me for just these types of emergencies

I suspect that happens a lot to computer programmers.

Quote:
Sanity Saver(TM) is a Visual Basic application that reminds you to take care of yourself. As a software developer and all-around fanatic, I get in front of a computer and forget about my physical body. I don't take breaks, I don't use the bathroom, I stop blinking, I might even stop breathing for significant amounts of time. So I invented Sanity Saver(TM) to nudge me every now and then, so that using a computer does not become a life- threatening pastime.

I do this all the time (including right now) and just had this conversation with my husband recently. We had just met at 7pm after I finished work, had dinner, and were on our way to see a film (A History of Violence):

Me (while walking into cinema): I'm going to use the bathroom. I've needed to go pretty much all day.
Him: Why didn't you go at work?
Me: I find Need-to-Pee energy a valuable motivating force during the workday.
Him: Huh?
Me: All my life I have used that frantic Need-to-Pee energy to get me going.
Him: You are so bizarre.

I love that Need-to-Pee dance little kids do.

I go whenever I have to...I have to go, it's ALL I can think about. I just go to get it over with. I have a lot of difficulty knowing when the bladder is actually full, though, and often it seems like it comes on suddenly. My neurology is a bit whacked out in that area. I probably visit the restroom upwards of 10 times a day, since anything other than a completely empty bladder drives me nuts. It's sort of possibly a sensory issue with me.

I've been checked out by doctors and there is nothing physically amiss. It's just my neurology.

Seriously, though, my whole family has always made fun of me for my "bathroom thing". My dad still sense me links to news stories about toilets whenever he finds them. :/

When I am playing I often don't realize I need to go.
