In both cases, the candidate knew that he was going to lose anyway. Picking someone who is relatively unknown but who has a vagina is an act of shere desperation.

I thought it was a strategic ploy to get the coveted Hillary moms who refuse to support Barack Obama and to show that a vote for him is still a vote for a not-all-white-male ticket (possibly a good enough compromise for some who just wanted to see a woman president; a woman vice president might do). The newspaper article I read also said she represents the Washington outsider element.

If you look at her positions, she's a fundamentalist Christian through and through—definitely not someone I'd want in a position of major power.

This is something that is going to backfire. Most fundamentalist Christians do not like the idea of women heading the government, any more than they will accept female heads of churches.

the real problem here is she will be in Washington, DC, far far away from moose meat and high powered hunting rifles. She will be what Bush was, a 'tabla rasa' a clean slate for all the neo-cons to use as a sock puppet, just like the almost unrecognizable John McCain.

Easily. McCain expressed opposite stances on gay marriage within ten minutes of each other. He flip-flops on Iraq, on the economy, on most of his major policy positions, and even on basic historical fact. The man is a senile old fool who should not be given control of America's nuclear arsenal.

one must be a senile old fool, or an old movie idol with pre altzheimer's, someone with a recognizable family name, but a lazy thinker with connections. John McCain has done what he has to do to get a shot at the prestige. So, for VP they choose a fresh young Alaskan out of the wilderness to be easily influenced They needed a Katherine Harris for this election. we shall see how this all plays out.

Sarah Palin is purty. Ill vote for her if she autographs my picture.

I just watched a really well done interview with Alaska's Governor, Sarah Palin and she is all they say she is. . wonderful, smart, has a husband that is part Inuit so understands how a woman can be someone in a governing position. I think she is great best damn thing that happened to Alaska and if we take her away from that, the Alaskans would suffer!
