Yes, that piece corroborates what I was saying in my little rant.

It's just not right. :(

One day, mark my words, Britons wil no longer sing "God Save The Queen" for fear of Islamic reprisal. :(

And Canada will be next ... 8O

I respect all religions. I have no religion myself but have respect for anyones believes. I have christian friends but also jewish friends and islamic friends. I like multiculturalism in general. I can enjoy visiting a beautiful old cathedral in Rome, but just as well enjoy the beautiful sounds of the Arabic music with islamic messages. I am trying to keep an open mind, and to be tolerant.

I wonder where you get that atheists hate religion? I cannot prove god doesnt exist, so who am i to sneer at religions? As long as no clear proof of deities or non deities exists we will never know the truth if there is a god. Who am I to tell my friends (and as said, I have friends of different faiths) that they are wrong?

It is simply not truth that atheists disrespect religions. I respect everyones believes, be it Christianity, Islam or Judaism. I do wish they would be more mixed instead of the "each in his own territory" attitude, I think multiculturalism benefits anyone and makes us richer persons emotionally and intellectually.

techstepgenr8tion, what do you precisely want to ask about Turkey? I have lived there for a while, not long enough maybe to claim to be a specialist + Istanbul is a lot more moderate and secular than some smaller cities in Turkey so I experienced the more modern and less traditional side of Turkey. However, i can only say the tolerance and social feeling of the Turks was a lot nicer than the mentality in any of the 5 "western" countries where I lived.

Other atheists on this site have unbounded vitriol for religion. You are an anomaly in that respect. You're not angry or bitter or passive-aggressive like other atheists on WrongPlanet. Your attitude and worldview isn't like theirs. I don't quite know what to think. :?

And you seem to be outraged that Muslims are now starting to be part of that society, keeping their own cultural identity strong while more and more native Brits dont care about religion anymore?

For the record, the overwhelming majority of Muslims in the UK is not demanding sharia law, but I guess the media has a better story reporting about the minority shouting out loud. And of those who do ask for Sharia law, most dont ask for it to be applied as only legal system but only applied on request when both involved parties in a courtcase are Muslim and wish to have Sharia applied. In other words, Sharia as an option, not as a standard.

And many many Brits dont care about religion anymore or dont actively practise Christianity anymore. I dont see why it has to be offensive that some Muslims still hold on to their faith, it is not a race which religion is strongest or has most followers. It should not be a race anyway. You seem to be the outraged one, Slowmutant, not the muslims. No Muslim is asking Britain to "totally surrender".

Tell me in how many Arab States Christians can plant their churches with the ease Muslems can do it in Europe? By the way, extremists be it neo nazis or radical muslems will use the right of free speech of their host country to get power, in democratic States and once they got the power they will turn democracy into a dictatorship.

The extremists always got the answer and truth in hand and as long as they are in opposition only, they don't have to prove anything to no one. That's why if we allowed Flemish VB or the French Front National to rule, they wouldn't last long because they would prove what lame politicians they are. The people would see who they really are and not vote for them any longer, now they become martyrs and get all the sympathy

No, this more than "holding onto their faith." This is about the systematic eradication of all things British and moreover all things Western. You see it from that pespective because you're one of them.

It irritates me when you down-play and hush-hush what's going on here. If Britain gets devoured by Islam, my homeland could be next. And of course that is not acceptable.

the irony when you see how it propagates. After the Indians were converted by force by Spanish conquistadores, now muslems are taking over in Mexico converting poor Indians into muslem too. No joke, it is happening.

Your first British convert and radical was Cat Stevens, known as Yussuf Islam who openly supported the fatwa on Rushdie. Shame on him!

That *brilliant* free speech philosophy will be Britain's undoing. It might already be too late for the British people to act. This fawning over foreign oil-masters will eventually replace England's cathedrals with mosques and minarets.

If this means the British and European society gets the solidarity that I experienced in "islamic" Turkey, then bring it on. And mosques are beautiful buildings.

I really think you are making no sense. In general you seem a nice person, but here this just is exagerated to the full extent. A small minority of Muslims live in the UK, amongst that minority an even smaller minority is asking if Sharia can be applied as an OPTION (thus not in regular courtcases where no non muslims are involved) and you make it sound like a Wahhabist army is ready to overthrow the British government.

PS hopefully the mosques will have 4 minarets like it should be, and a nice dome with the crescent sign clearly marked. Those are my favourite mosques.

I have nothing against the beauty of a cathedral, stupas or mosques, but no thank you for their chiming of the bells in the morning and evening, or hearing the muezin five times a day.

NO THANKS, I have opted to live in a secular state with my private spiritual rituals in the pricacy of my home

Not that long ago the whole of Europe was torn apart, some of those that taught me had fled an intolerant regime and some others had fought that same regime and almost all had lost friends or family.
Fairly soon (2 weeks) we will be remember those who died so that those of us who live here now are free to follow whatever religion we wish.
Now I don't care where anyone goes to pray, I don't care what they call there god or gods. I am incapable of understanding why there are so many different kinds of monotheism surly if Jews, Muslims and Christians all worship one god then they all worship the same god but not only do they fight each other they all have factions that fight within themselves. I might even regard this as more evidence that there is no god but at the end of the day I am ethically bound defend the right of anyone to pursue there religion whatever it is.

The thing I resent is when these people want to inflict there religion upon others, that is wrong.

If a person is Muslim and wishes to live by Shariah law that is fine as long as he does not expect me to.

Modern Turks from Istanbul complain about urks from the rest of the country because they have migrate en masse to Istanbul and are unwiling to adapt to istanbul's secular society, that is wht heats up and increases tension in Istanbul, which has been a modern city with secular culture. It is the orthodox, peasant population we got in Europe, they live in Ghent where they have what they call there small Istanbul and they are as stubborn and isolationist as they are in Istanbul-

By the way, you are not an atheist but indeed more likely an agnostic

You know what's the anthem of Brunei? Allah Peliharakan Sultan - Allah bless the Sultan.

I hereby declare that I am but an utmost fan of the British Empire. I continue to wish the UK had sovereignity over India, for I'd rather be ruled by great Viceroys like Lord Macaulay rather than corrupt secularists or hindu fanatics.

In my opinion, the best alternative to the Caliphate is British rule over the world.

My whole family is very very pro-British. Apart from the Khilafat movement, Indian Muslims were always pro-British. Until the Iraq war, Muslims love the UK worldwide, and much of this love is returning after their withdrawl from Iraq.

I am Pashtun by ethnicity, Indian by nationality, Muslim by faith, and English at heart.

Long live the Queen.

How can you say that? People used to say the same to me, back when I reverted to Islam and informed them that I was agnostic. Until I mentioned the fact that I wanted to exterminate all religious people, especially Muslims. I was one of those fanatic blackmetal intolerant guys. Yeah, now that's true fanaticism, lol.

Not believing in God's existence = Atheism.

Respect for any person's religion or philosophy = Tolerance.

not meant for you, but for the person who syas loves the Middle East She/he is from Belgium.

You're Pashtun? Isn't there a saying that a Pashtun is at peace when he is at war? :D
I lived seven years in India or rather nomaded, I have visited all I needed to see, I also spent time in Quetta and Ziarat and spoke with Taliban, I know who they are and how they think. That was 1998, wouldn't go back to Quetta today, too dangerous I guess. One month in Iran crisscrossing the country was another experience and heard different stories form Iranians how they are living under the yoke of the mollahs and ayatollahs...in Shiraz and Isfahan they wished for the return of American tourists...

The rich Iranians never suffered under Chomeiny, they had put their money in Swiss banks and they continued their lifestyle eating caviar and the rest.
The ayatollahs will never give in to a secular law as they have taken over the entire economy and took over many businesses.

I am ethnically Pashtun, Persian, Indian, Arab, and Russian. Consider myself Pashtun though, however. My family has lived in India for over 5 centuries now, we've lost most of our culture.

The Taliban was active in Balochistan? I had no idea. I thought it was a stronghold for the political party Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (which is highly pro-Taliban) in some parts.

Regarding Iran, it's all politics in the end. Power corrupts.

Most Islamic countries don't enforce Sharia Law as heavily as is often believed. There was Taliban-ruled Afghanistan, which was the most strict... the Taliban thought they were the only "legal" Islamic government because of their overzealous enforcement of Sharia Law (hey look, classic extremist point of view: even if others believe in the same God, they still don't get in the club because they don't believe in the same way we do...)

Other than that, Sharia Law is enforced in varying degrees... Saudi Arabia enforces it more than Egypt, for example. Ironically, the one Islamic country that had the least enforcement of Sharia Law was Saddam Hussein's Iraq regime, which was almost entirely secularized.

Eh, if I was a ruler of a country I wouldn't want immigrants to keep their backwards culture and force it upon my people. Assimilate or face deportation I say.
