I know!! Really!! If the stove had been gas, I would have gladly stuck my head inside! And then my aunt says "Hey, you're being awfully quiet over there" and they all descended on my like vultures. I think I was vibrating so hard that I should have been able to teleport through the time-space continuum!

I commonly got stuck with all the women when I was forced to go to baby/wedding showers for someone in my family. The games they play at those things are totally rediculous and the way they coo over all the baby clothes....

Women scare me 8O

And it was so not fair because the men of the family went to the other room and played video games.

I went to a baby shower for a friend from work... his wife and her family kept cooing over everything and only bought cutesy gifts. The 4 people who showed up for him all brought practical gifts and no one said anything. It was awkward.

I agree - women scare me too! I can never tell when/if they're being genuine or manipulative.

The men folk in my family always escape to go drink and argue business or politics... equally ick! I usually tried to stay outside and play with the dog or man the grill :P Ever since I got my diagnosis, I feel totally absolved of having to accept invitations for those things anymore - thank GOD!!

I don't really fit into the stereotype of a teenage girl, but I'm not exactly tomboy-ish either. I read girlie magazines (actually cos of the sex stuff, LOL), but I have a more "male" attitude to life, like it really pisses me off when girls are acting all emotional over NOTHING.

Lol I like reading the sex stuff too but I find much of it rediculous and amusing.

I read the women's magazines at the doctor's office... they're amusing and informative sometimes, but other times I think "what are these people thinking/talking about?!" Like the other day, I was reading People's "Best and Worst Dressed"... I couldn't tell why some people got best dressed and others got worst dressed when I thought the dresses pretty much looked the same, or a "best" dress was hideously ugly and "worst" dress was clever.

I'm not very gender-identified one way or another. I'm physically female and a heterosexual, but otherwise I don't understand the reasoning between "girl things" and "guy things"... I just do, wear, research whatever makes me happy and comfortable. I can't even begin to recount how many times that attitude has gotten me in trouble!! I think I was the only academic honor student in my high school who took automechancis, industrial arts and home economics all in the same semester... and definitely the only girl to do so. I never understood why automechanics is "not for girls"... we have smaller hands that can fit inside engine compartments and such so much easier 8)

I only wear one hundred percent cotton clothing, and I HATE heels. Many years ago I discovered a style of 'easy spirit' white tennis shoes that fit as if they are my own foot......now I am spoiled and only like wearing my easy spirits.....luckily it is a style that they keep making year after year. I think I have a firm attachment to 'easy spirits', and I like that they are white. I don't like the sound of high heels walking. It irritates me A LOT.

Shoes are a status marker and one of the major products that (many) people look at to judge whether they want you in their group or not.

I hate shopping. It's hard to find ladies' shoes in my size, because my feet are bigger than ladies' 12. I have always had to buy men's shoes, and they are too wide. I could go to a fancy ladies' shop for the one pair of dress shoes I need for special occasions, and then I have to pay $200 for the most basic thing I can get.

I like my steel toed work shoes. They are safe in slippery conditions, protect my feet from damage such as dropping something heavy in the garden, and would double as a serious weapon if I needed to kick my way out of an assault.

I love beautiful things, but I just don't think personal adornment is that important, at least not to me. Tidy and clean is adequate. Compare the Dalai Lama's style to anyone dressed up all sharp for some occasion and it's patently obvious how silly it is. Just my view.

I mean, really, what is the deal?! First, most of the shoes these women covet look and feel like medieval torture devices. Second, you could run a small country with the money they cost. Third, why do you need so many, why hoard them? Fourth, there are better uses for available storage space!

I only have a few of pairs of shoes. They're all comfortable and function-specific. Cheap Keds for everyday. Sport shoes for walking and exercising. Work boots for summer and winter. And one pair of classic dress boots with a low heel for the rare occasions I'm forced to dress up. If I'm not going outside, I'm barefoot or in socks (if it's cold).

It does go beyond shoes in my case, my wardrobe is entirely functional and comfortable as well. I can't help wondering if this is because of my AS? Not only can I not get jazzed about shoes (or clothes) but I can't even understand why anyone would. It makes it very difficult to have conversations or go shopping with other women (esp. my mother who keeps trying to turn me into a girl!).

they remind me of sex and when I walk in them I like the way I walk. They make me taller and since I am 5'3 and my husband is 6'4 that helps.

But I only buy heels 4 inches and up.

I kinda feel this way about boots, especially fierce boots like thigh-high Doc Martens. Something sexy about looking like you could kick some serious a$$! But heels don't make me feel sexy, just even more clumsy and awkward.

Oy vey - 4 inch heels!! I'm sure I'd fall and break something. I can barely keep my balance in 2 inchers.

I love shoes, but I think that my interest in clothes, shoes and my appearence in general, is part of my ASD special interest. Hmmmm.

I don't understand the status thing with shoes at all.
There is the part of me that is just girly enough though that I have wound up with quite a few pairs.

I am only interested in comfortable shoes.
I sometimes like certain kinds of clogs or Birkenstocks, but my feet are funnily shaped because of the way I have always walked, so i tend to quickly destroy the cute comfy "well-made" Danskos and Birkenstocks. I have a tendancy to pick up nice doc Martins at thrift stores when I find them, and have wound up with several pair, but I seldom wear them because they are too heavy.

Most of the time I wear Crocs, and when I don't want to feel like i might be in danger of slipping, i wear my Tevas, which are nice velcro sandals with good traction.

I have tiny feet for my size, but they are really wide in front and have really high arches and a sort of exaggerated bony ridge across the top. They gave me hell while I was growing up, and i am glad i grew out of that. I cannot wear dainty shoes at all.

All shoes look the same to me... and they're way too expensive... I don't get it either.
