What's your verdict?

I thought this was going to be a bad movie, but no it was a great movie. Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, Connie Nielsen and Denzel Washington were fantastic as was Ridley Scott's direction.

Last night we watched:

The Monster of Phantom Lake [2006]
<=>"The Unspeakable Horror that Menaced the Fate of the Human Race!"

IMDb estimates the budget for this film to be $3,500. 8O

First movie in the Mihmiverse.

Deliberately full of cliches and is lots of fun!

The Return Of Captain Invincible!

Purposely schlocky superhero flick, in which all American superhero Captain Invincible fights evil in the good old days, till he's called before the House Committee on UnAmerican Activities for being a premature anti fascist. Years later, when his nemesis, Mr. Midnight, is bent on genocide, he is found living in Australia as an alcoholic. Retrained to get his powers back, he fights evil again. And it's a musical, too!
Very funny, very goofy flick. Christopher Lee, as Mr. Midnight, can actually sing!

Last night we watched:

It Came from Another World! [2007]

Second movie in the Mihmiverse.

Deliberately full of cliches and is lots of fun!

Parts of it had my bride chuckling because she recognized allusions to the Star Trek universe.

Julie, 2004

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0421277/

Quote:
A heartbroken Julie comes to Mumbai to make a living, but the fast-moving city forces her to take up prostitution as her profession.

You can watch it here, if you can understand Hindi

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXl8pbtRczk

It is one of those "hawt prostitute scores a rich hubby by the end" movies.

No T&A, even in the sex scenes.

It seemed to be, on one level, trying to make a Feminist statement that even prostitutes deserve love.

On the other hand, Julie gains a lot of advantages, just for being sexy and attractive.

The movie also makes the point that men are basically dogs, except for the extremely rich man at the end, who proposed marriage when they first met, with no knowledge of her profession.

So, I don't know. I'm probably not going to add this one to my list of Recommended Movies. It is probably better than "Pretty Woman", which isn't saying much.

I don't think so. But possibly enjoyed by the same folk.

Last night we watched:

Cave Women on Mars [2008]

Third movie in the Mihmiverse.

Deliberately full of 1950's Science Fiction movies cliches and is lots of fun!

HUMOR

And, let me clarify. From what I've read and seen I think it is fair to say that the Mihmverse films are parodies of 1950's Science Fiction movies but I don't believe you need to be too familiar with those films to enjoy the Mihmverse. If you have had some exposure to the 1950's Science Fiction films then the HUMOR in the Mihmverse will be what I think you will enjoy.

I enjoy 1950's Science Fiction movies; my bride can sometimes tolerate one or two of them but generally does not like them. But we are both very entertained by the Mihmverse films we've seen so far!

Nosferatu (2024)

I think I should have enjoyed the film more than I did. The photography was mostly (95%???) really good. The acting was good. The sets were very good. The color tone was marvelous. However, I had a problem "getting into the movie." That's on me. Perhaps I'll go again, and sit in a different seat. I did not sit in my usual seating area, and that might have distracted me. There were people on either side of me.

The photography and light was very, very nice is a few scenes. Like a painting by Johannes Vermeer. The color tone and texture was really nice as well.

The White Masai https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0436889/

Interesting. A blonde Swiss woman marries a Masai warrior and integrates into his tribe, away in the African bush.

Last night we watched:

Terror from Beneath the Earth [2009]
<=>"From the darkest nether regions comes a terrifying mutant creature hell-bent on destruction!"

Fourth movie in the Mihmiverse.

IMDb's "Full Cast & Crew" list for this film is hilarious! IMDb's "Trivia" characterizes it as "examples of multitasking and nepotism."

Hell in the Pacific.

Toshirô Mifune as a a marooned Japanese navy captain, and Lee Marvin as a shot-down American pilot, marooned together on the same small island during World War II. They start out trying to kill each other, but then end up cooperating to build a raft.

A lot of it seems improbable--for example, how their raft could possibly get them anywhere in the Pacific. But, these two actors are very skilled at their craft, and make for an entertaining film.

Remake of the Japanese horror film. Very creepy.

I'm watching Finding Dory ATM

I think it's way funnier than Finding Nemo
