Reading some of the commentary on the results, it's both interesting and a bit depressing to see how much this was an election of tactical campaigning. All the other parties had a game plan to extract what they could from the Tories' inevitable downfall.

Both Labour and the Lib Dems concentrated on campaigning in a shortlist of Conservative seats where they were the second-highest polling party in the last election. This worked very, very well. (Several Labour MPs complained they weren't allowed to campaign in their own constituency until after they'd spent most of the day in one of these target areas.)

The Greens identified 3 new seats where they were in with a chance, went all out on them, and got all three. Reform were playing the long game. They seemed more interested in whittling down the Conservative vote all over the country than in winning specific seats. The goal is to eventually replace the Conservatives as the main right-wing party, so they're not too fussed that their actions led directly to such a huge Labour majority. If anything, that suits their narrative.
