As long as we're talking about unwanted changes, what's with the turd logo?

I considered it a lump of coal, or a burnt out cinder. It is probably to commemorate when WP jumped the shark.

I am unfamiliar with this idiom. What is "jumping the shark" and why is it a reason to switch from a really nice logo to a really crappy one?

It is named after the episode of the sitcom Happy Days in which character Arthur "Fonzie" Fonzarelli jumps over a shark. The show only went downhill from there, in popular opinion.

I see. How has WP "jumped the shark?" Further, why would we be commemorating such a thing, and why does it mean replacing the logo with a turd?

Back in the day, this site crashed at 11 every night. I figured it was Midnight in the Bermuda Triangle.

It was fixed, and some good posters lost. This site reflects the users, they do not deal with change well.

Sometimes they just stop and stare, other times change the subject.

I am rebuilding a Compaq Presario 1070 laptop from 1997, 1 Gb hard drive, 32 Mb Memory, and a Pentium I, It needs a CMOS battery, and I cannot find it. Windows 95 with a CD drive was it, everything else is vanity.

So does anyone know where this quarter size 3V battery is hiding?

The value of WP is not in hardware, software, attempted management, but in the thoughts that flow from the users. It does spread, this neural net ware is growing, and the unknown autism is being explored.

It has the comfortable sameness of a stuffed animal that has been there for you for years.

No, I do not want a new and shiney stuffed animal, I do not want to be like everyone else, blindly moving on to the new anything. I only used XP after the second service pack showed it was stable, never touched Vista, and 7 is on my wait and see list. I wait well.

Perhaps the problem is in those who seek status, find fault, and fail to enjoy a thing for what it is.

WP is autism friendly, here a differance of thought and perception is the most important thing.

Everywhere the reaction to autism is change and regulation by others. Parents, Teachers, Therapists, Autism Speaks, where the demands are constant to stop being yourself, and accept the outside world.

Everywhere it is the demands for change, and even if you do, they then come up with another list. Everyone seems to think they are somehow empowered to tell us what to do.

I am happy with the way WP has been, a comfortable place, Some have tried to make it uncomfortable, that did not last. It is a place where like minds meet. This thread is like demands for installing florescent lighting and surround sound, In our monestary. We need formica walls, and carpet that will be vacuumed every day, and we will have to live by the bells, and walk in formation.

There is an easy answer for your distress at our ways, in the top right hand corner of your screen is an X, click on it once, and go to all the fast and super powered places that are truely the desire of your heart.

This thread is disruptive to the harmony of WP, and downright insulting the gifts Alex has provied for so many of us.

Do you think your social skills and networking will work here?

99% of the world matches your view, go there and be happy.

If a new user joins the site, that is change.
Every time a person posts a thread, that is change.
If the members were to experience a slow down and/or were unable to reference the site, that would be change they would have to deal with.



If anything is discovered during this "exploration of the unknown" something will have changed. Thoughts, opinions, etc.



Perhaps we're trying to find a way to preserve this thing as best as possible over time. You may be able to handle the degradation of the site, but it doesn't mean that others can.



I don't recall any requests in this thread to change the layout or appearance of the site. Would it bother you if the lighting was changed from coal power to solar if the lights worked and appeared the same?



It's unfortunate that you see it that way. Persons with AS are often intrigued by the inner workings of mechanical devices. I see the interest in learning and improving the inner workings of WP as an extension of that.

Time for me to click the submit button and force change upon the forum...

I credited my first 18 months keeping my job when WP crashed for an hour every night at 11PM because I would just go to bed. I always figured it was 2 AM on the East Coast and it was backing up the server.

Agreed ... and is it possible that computer does have a replaceable one? I have one old desktop here that does not have one showing anywhere, yet it somehow holds its settings.

I always thought this was a very aspie site, including the WP configuration running, er crawling, it.

Even though I don't particularly enjoy working with MySQL, I've read about it, and I feel that this might be the problem.
