I kind of see where Rossc is coming from, I mean its going to have about 3 people posting in it.. Then you'll get a million other people demanding a sub forum for their monority until you're scrolling a couple of km down the page.

Just my opinion don't mean to offend:/

I also think the womens forum should be scrapped so some of these men will stop throwing their toys.

We'll see how the period discussions go in random discussion eh? I think they'll go down like a cup of cold sick.

To be honest I never really understood the point of the men's discussion. Men don't discuss their men's issues. Women do. The women's forum seems to work. I don't really go there but I have no real reason to. Certainly if you were coming here asking for that forum I would probably put up the same objection. If you (as a woman) described in detail what kind of subjects women would want to discuss that would not generally fall in line with run of the mill debate I would probably be convinced.
Having said that if I saw a thread. Discuss your period or whatever I would not be offended I just would not bother opening it. IF you choose to and read it and get offended or sickened or whatever I say that is your own fault and you should cop it and move on.
Sorry does this make any sense?

Admins, please create a GLBT forum. Please, do the right thing.

If it is not popular, then remove it, but give it a chance.

Brenda you still haven't explained the relevance to the whole people who don't agree don't because they are egodystonic thing. It seemed an integral part to you platform originally. May help in understanding whether it IS the "right thing" or not

Rossc, I would stand to reason that a person strongly opposed to the creation of a GLBT forum, would have a motivation for doing so. One of the most common reasons for a person to oppress a person who is GLTB is trying to control in others something that they may find in themselves. To be blunt, I question your motivations for trying to stop the creation of a single ub-forum, when there are a few much less important that a GLTB forum. You have shown, "combative debate." I have provided the "generation of ideas." Where is your ""freedom of expression?"

This is my platform, and my motivations for the creation of a GLTB forum:
1.) Perhaps give someone one less reason to take their life.
2.) Let ASD people who are GLTB discuss the associated issues in a thread area where people are expected to receive common respect.
3.) Create an specific area to explore the cross-gendered identification occasionally associated with ASD, as related by Tony Atwood. This is why, I suggested a gender-variant forum, because I wanted an open-ended non-transitioning feel to it. From the Dr. Atwood's book, these issues seem to be sociological, and I think it would be good if people have a place to vent/discuss identification issues, because the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transsexual community and support structure may not understand the ASD experience/perspective.
4.) Within the scope of ASD people who have relationships, perhaps 10%, are GLTB.

I believe that fragmenting potential of adding a forum Wrongplanet.net, would be a positive, because it may encourage growth.

I believe that the denial of the creation of a GLBT forum would have a negative effect because it would demonstrate a lack of openness.

Oh I was questioning the few less as well. I think there are far too many boards here and being not GLBT myself I do not understand and perhaps appreciate when you state that GLBT people will find acceptance if there is a GLBT forum why they may not otherwise.
I was in fact questioning why it was so important and why it would make such a huge difference or why they would not be able to post otherwise or not find acceptance otherwise. If I saw a post on the general forums that was to do with GLBT issues, I would not likely enter discussions because I don't have the interest or knowledge to make a worthwhile contribution (unless it was something that could be generalised in context of discussion that I can relate to)
So this is rather radically different to your bolded above which is even less strongly worded than the bolded below;

Over the years, I've learned that people either have/find GLBT aspects in themselves, or they do not. If people do not identify as GLBT, they will probably not identify with the GLBT situation/experience. Yet, if you are not GLBT, but are still confident in who you are, then permitting people to have GLTB forum would seem a simple task, but if someone is egodystonic you would fight something like this, perhaps you will try to control in others, what you control in yourself.

It gives an either/or. Either you agree with having this forum set up and you are content with your own sexuality or you don't in which case you have issues with your sexuality. When does it become an either/or?
Can someone content with their sexuality find reasons not to or perhaps even wish to have your view explained without having sexuality issues? Well yes they can.
So why the either /or approach? Very militant "You are with us or against us and you have to act now to be wish us, why have you not done anything yet?"
I don't get your position or angle.

How would not having it not be open? I would imagine that this would define open. I imagine it would have the effect of saying "You can post anywhere regardless of your gender or sexual preference and we are not going to place conditions on you. We accept you as you are".

I may be reading this wrong which is why I asked you to explain.

You may convince me on this but at present you are saying it should be because it is just and it is just because it should be. Kinda circular and I don't doubt your want I doubt its necessity.

One of my friends attempted to take his life because he was depressed.

The reason for his depression was that he was he was the highest academically performing student in primary, in high school among the top and at uni not anywhere near.
He put too much pressure on himself.....

Hey guys! We are, by and large VERY intelligent. We have high IQ's. Therefore maybe by the same rationale that you are seeking to make a point with, we should have a forum set up for high achievers, just in case. Could save a life? What do you say?

Or is this silly? If so why?

rossc, I believe that you have gone off-topic. In this thread, we are discussing the creation of a GLBT forum. If you want a high-IQ thread, perhaps you should start a new thread.

It is becoming apparent that you want people to needlessly suffer because you cannot find the maturity to accept that GLBT people would want a forum where people should expect more understanding than you can provide in your present state.

Developers/Ops/Ed's, I patiently await the creation of the GLBT forum.

i don't understand your point. rossc, you stated that you never knew anyone who committed suicide because they are gay. kc8ufv provided an example of someone who attempted suicide. i also know someone who attempted suicide because he was gay.

i don't get what intelligence has to do with this. if you would like a subforum for geniuses, then by all means start a thread about that.

Why is there a desire for a LBGT subforum all of a sudden when there are enough generalised subforums available to suit any posting needs?

Lecks, a separate forum would provide an area whereas people were expected to be respectful of GLBT persons who have ASD, whereas elsewhere there is no such expectation. Outside a GLBT forum, people will be more apt to belittle people because of their GLBT issues, and therefore those person with GLBT issues may feel inhibited in discussing those issues.

The fact that rossc cannot understand the need for the creation of a GLBT forum itself--illustrates that some people in the general forums are not emotionally prepared to deal with GLBT issues. This thread and it's subsequent comments may represent a simulation of the treatment of an individual who raises a GLBT issue. I were a person in need, I want better for them than some of the response I have received here.

[I have personally met at least 3 people, perhaps 4 ASD people, who are also GLBT, and I suspect a few more. Are you going to help them, in a compassionate manner, if the need it? There are people on Wrongplanet who don't don't want to live for being ASD - Hetro, and yet being GLBT can at times be more difficult because of our society.]

I asked for the forum because I saw the need. Wrongplanet and the ASD community are strong enough to accept diversity in its collective.
There are well enough subforums for much more trivial things than a GLBT forum. The benefit will be far greater than the risk.

I have issues, but I have a good Asperger's support group I can attend. I have a GLBT center whereas I can attend meeting for all those things.

For some people who are both ASD and GLBT, and that's all they are going to have for support is the GLBT forum, here on Planetout, and it's not even made yet. We turn on the news and see that GLBT people are dying. Wrongplanet, please do something about it.

I have seen no disrespect towards any GLBT members thus far, everyone is expected to be respectfull of other members in every subforum. In this regard there is no need for such a subforum. Moreover, there is absolutely no guarantee that those posting in this GBLT forum would be met with any more respect than any other area of this site. Trolls don't care about forum titles.

I can not speak for rossc, but my own reservations against a new subforum, regardless of it's intended content, has nothing to do with my emotional willingness to deal with it's issues. It's simply a matter of practicality.
