It's a more complicated form of Lego. In the way that normal Lego is built following a brick principal, the one for Technic seems to be more along the lines of ROBOT parts! Here's a link to the Wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lego_technic

Hi Daniel! Happy belated birthday!

I'm very happy for you because you've found out that you have Asperger's Syndrome at a young age. I was pretty old in comparison (almost 24) when I was diagnosed. Sometimes it isn't easy to be different, especially in school, but I hope that knowing the reason behind your differences and that there are so many of us out there just like you helps.

It makes me optimistic about the future to hear about more and more kids like you who are getting extra help at school with social skills and growing up with a better sense of who you are. I think it will make life easier for you than those of us who didn't have those things. You sound like a very bright boy and I hope that over time you will learn to be proud of being different. I also hope you know that you are lucky to have a mother who sounds like she supports and loves you very much.

I'd guess you'll have trouble getting on here at all, now that your boys have both got their own usernames set up. So sad... there you are, taking care of them as they grow, and all of a sudden they leave you. And here, they can do that just so young!

Daniel is a very bright boy ... he tested extremely well visuospatially on his IQ test. He wouldn't cooperate on other sections of the test (too stressed) but we know he's bright.

Thankyou for the nice things you said about me (his mother). I was always a bit weird and a bit of an outcast at school so I can relate.

It is difficult getting on WrongPlanet by myself now!! I had major withdrawl symptoms last night!! WrongPlanet has been my therapy .. no more tears since going on this site.

The boys have stopped watching tv in order to go on WrongPlanet!!

How useless am I? I failed to spell your name right, Smelena. Inexcusable, particularly when it's so easy to cut&paste, anyway!

The only tears on here will be those of laughter. Quite regularly.

Certainly, since I overcame my 9 month gestation period, between when I joined WP and when I made my first post (not that long ago), my TV watching has suffered enormously.

I am not interested in looking at strangers faces, but I have learned to. I found out I don't recognize faces, it's something about how the skin is drawn over the bones that just creeps me out inside. I can't help the way I feel, but I also have learned over the years that they can't help the way they look, either. So I compromise and look them in the eyes, because then I don't have to look at their FACES!
I don't mind looking at people I DO know, because I can hear their voices and see the same familiar clothing and hair . . .

you might also want to know that as my own face changes over the years, I often can't recognize my own face either, even when it is right there in the mirror.
But that's all right too, cause I just pretend it's the most beautiful face in the wooooooorrrrrllllldddd.

We've tried to find out from Daniel why he hates looking at people's faces but he only cries when we try to discuss it ... he is only 7 though!

He has said he finds it very scary. Your description was very informative.

I call it creepy and I'm 47. I don't think it's his age. Even looking into my own eyes in a mirror I find disturbing. I can't read anything from eyes or really from faces, so I get no feedback. In a way, for me, that would be like insisting a blind person look into faces, only instead of sending no image, my brain wouldn't know what to do with the image it received. I thought I actually improved over time (despite the fact that I have an unnerving stare when I do look because I'm trying to hard to "see" something), but I took Baron-Cohen's eye test about a month ago and only guessed two right our thirty odd sets of eyes. Those two were complete guesses. I saw nothing different in any of them. That tells me that I don't read them any better at all than when I was 7. I may have learned to pick things up from the context of the situation to compensate. Same with facial expressions. I only pick up on the most obvious ones. Forget any hidden meanings in speaking. I never get those and people realize that very quickly. That's after being married 26 years and working in corporations for 24 years (as of next month).

Try to remember we all have different abilities. Our brains developed differently show things in different ways. Just like anything else with human development, we are all different, it just happens to be our brains instead of different shoe sizes. Make sense?

So when you think about it from a brain perspective and the signals it sends Daniel, it will make more sense when you can't talk him out of it. Your words can't alter the information his brain sends him.

I read a study about cracks in mirror neurons that said we often receive internal signals instead of external. Makes sense (needs more testing, but the theory makes sense) and they wanted to do biofeedback on eyes and body language based on the AU/AS first then slowly switch it to someone else. Well, that sounds good, but then I thought about it. My own eyes and face unnerve me. I don't think that's going to help! LOL Sometimes it's just a comedy what none of us realize. We're all in Plato's cave seeing shadows instead of the real image. Daniel's is just standing in a different place in the cave when he looks at the shadow.
