I don’t have any female friends I know in person
Marknis,
You are a young man who can hold down a job. My best advice to you would be to spread your wings and fly! Fly out on your own, leave all the mental baggage behind. Life is an adventure to be experienced. Sure things could turn out to be a disaster, at least you tried, yes? . BUT..............................things to turn out to be wondrous and exciting! Seeing new sites, experiencing new environments, and meeting new people are all out there to be discovered by you. And perhaps my young sir, you might find that special someone. C'mon man, what have you got to loose? LIVE!

And of course, would you be able to live on your own?

My social security still goes to her but other than that, I am honestly in the dark about my legal information. My mother withholds a lot of things I need to know from me because she is paranoid about it getting stolen and she even made me lose a potential chance for college socialization because of that paranoia. I feel like what I would have to do to get the information would be a nightmare since I would have to drive like crazy to a lot of places and I would sit around a long time waiting to talk to people. I tend to be very impatient and irritable in addition to feeling anxious and stressed out. I would hate how I would have to put my life on hold while other guys can go on dates.

Well yeah, that what it means to be independent. If you want to become independent, you'll have to work for it. So find out what your rights are and then demand for what's rightfully yours if you don't already have it. It's extremely unlikely you'll get any of the changes that you want in your life if you don't get out of your comfort zone and work for it.

You obviously have access to a computer and knowledge of how to use it. This gives you power to research everything you need to understand about your circumstances and the steps you can take to free yourself. There is a wealth of information of the Social Security web site. Something that comes to mind is power of attorney and whether or not your mother has that over you. Not a total game changer as there are ways to take that back. That too can easily be researched on the internet. You are a young adult and all the rights of an adult. The only person who can change things and give you your life back is you. It might seem a bit frightening at first, but if you truly want the things you post about then there is no practical alternative.
