College/university is a waste of our time. Why even bother with 3 or 4+ years of study for no job and debt? Marketing continuously pushes the myth that college education leads to better employment prospects. It is a complete lie. International graduates with years of experience are competing with local graduates makes it hard to obtain a job relevant to what you studied at college. The chances of obtaining a job are remote. College is a complete waste of time and should be avoided. Why go into debt and have no job at the end of it?

Many shops/retail have gone out of business. Everything is online now and that means fewer job opportunities. I have seen more people begging on streets than ever before. The lack of jobs available create this problem. There are not enough jobs. Government and employers are not working hard enough to fix this problem of not enough jobs.

I have applied for retail jobs, call centre, dish washer, factory, etc but not once have I been offered a job. It is a lie that low skilled jobs are easier to obtain. There are more people applying for those jobs and not many of them available. I have been unemployed for 10 years now since graduating from college and I have applied for thousands of jobs and not once have I ever secured employment.

The old days anyone could walk in off the street and get work that day. Modern employers make it so hard for job seekers. Employers know there are not many jobs available and get hundreds or thousands applying for low paying job positions.


Maybe you should start a thread in the Work forum.

It would really help if you provided your qualifications (education and job experience), how you go about applying, how you handle interviews (including personal appearance and the way you answer questions), as well as the types of jobs you apply for. The more detail the better.

The chances of attaining a job are not “remote.” If you’ve applied for as many jobs as you’ve said in other threads, there might be a problem with the way you are presenting yourself. I never have that much trouble getting a job, but I live in the US not Australia.

^I have never worked a job and have no work experience/no job history.
I no longer include my degree on resume because it makes me look over qualified for jobs that require no education.
Having no experience makes it hard to find jobs because employers want experienced workers with years of experience.
Australia has an over regulated job market with high minimum wage. I would like minimum wage reduced on par with the US so it creates more jobs and reduces unemployment rates.

I hate today's world because of the difficulty of finding a job despite wasting years of my life on a worthless education. Valuable education leads to job opportunities. In my case my education is worthless it lead to no job. It is different in other countries and I would gladly trade places with anyone in this world.

What is your degree in?

The situation is more or less the same theme in the developed countries in general.

What is your degree in?

Employers aren’t just looking for years worth of work history. In that case, no young person would ever get a job.


Australian employment system is the worst in the world.
Most employers over here demand years of experience for most jobs.
My degree was Commerce, major was accounting.

I wasted years studying a worthless degree for no job.
I regret going to college and wasting the best years of my life.
I have accepted I will never work in my life.
Many years have passed since I have graduated and I am still unemployed.

It was far easier gong to a factory, shop or farm back in the old days.
It is harder to get work today and I know this from my own experience.
I do not care that some on here will claim how easy it is to find work, well you got lucky.

Some, sure, but most get their jobs these days with the right connections, not luck. That, of course, requires social skills or parents with good social networks. And then there's the group that have an education that has high demand or are otherwise so skilled that they actually have lots of places to choose from.

And just to clarify, I've been unemployed and in unpaid "training programs" a lot in my life. I have a job now, but it's low paid and part time and I wouldn't even have that had I not agreed to take part in an unpaid "training program" for them first.

I wish I could have grown up earlier before the internet. It's kind of a cruel cosmic joke that I couldn't choose when I grew up and the "if" would always be an unknown mystery that can't happen. I think it's existential form of angst.

As I said, it was luck and knowing people. The luck was that I lived in a city that was running an aspie employment program. The knowing people part was that my uncle who worked there told me about it.

After having lived more than half a century, I have recently realized I have characteristics of Asperger's Syndrome. I am still in discovery mode. I heard that the Amish community had a 1 in 5000 rate for ASD whereas in technological society at large now it is 1 in 43 or so for boys today. I've heard (paraphrasing) Amish first assess impact of technology on society as a whole and then only embrace what is not harmful to traditional family norms. Asperger's Syndrome was not identified until 1981? The presence of modern society seems to have come about at cost of the destruction of traditional family and community support infrastructure for individuals that historically kept Aspergers Syndrome symptoms hidden (my hypothesis).

A better quality of life may be possible simply by recognizing what the real problem is and figuring out how to contribute to building an appropriate solution. One can lament what has been lost or one can make the effort to build an alternate support structure to improve one's quality of life and maybe even have a positive influence for improving the quality of life of others around them - find/build an alternative relational support infrastructure for individuals to compensate for what was lost.
I guess that is why WP exists - an attempt at an alternate support network.

Society in general needs highly functioning people on ASD spectrum who realize there is a problem that come with a technology rich society and who embrace the challenge to develop alternatives that meet individual needs for more relational support. Most NTs haven't figured this out yet and considering the state of affairs in society I think they need help.
