But who says this thing will be over in two weeks? The cases just keep getting worse. I read that 250 people on New York state died from it recently. So it keeps getting worse. Why is it for such a deadly disease that people think this is going to be over in two weeks?

I did misspeak, sorry - this will take a while for sure.
My oldest boy won't let me see my grandson unless I'm in total quarantine for 14 days (one week to go). Until Apr 20th I worked with someone who travelled, and a girl who was sick for several days before they sent both of them home. Now I'm laid off. My other boy lives in a highrise in Toronto in the thick of things. His girlfriend (and him too because they live together) just finished her quarantine because she lived in Manhattan for school since January. Now they are self-isolating, the whole family is. It is a strange and crazy, stressful time. Especially hard on my oldest because he has a family and he's an anxious guy anyways. Everyone seems so far away now.

Dean and I have been told not to go in to our volunteer job until after the pandemic. We're still going to get our $100 monthly honourarium.

Oh okay, but I'm already on EI now. Is that going to be a problem?

EI is backlogged so if you haven't received a cheque yet your file will automatically be switched to CERB and $2000 will be mailed by Apr 16th. (I suggest you update info for direct deposit). And then if still off in October your EI will kick in then.

If getting an EI cheque already you can apply a few weeks ahead of when it runs out.

I only make $18/hr so the CERB is actually more than I'd receive on EI - yay! If with being off I'll only pay a minimum of tax on it!

Oh okay. I feel guilty being on EI though, because they always ask if I am looking for work, where as I have been avoiding jobs, because of the virus. So should I feel guilty about EI therefore, or am I taking advantage?

Not taking advantage, but I understand and have a similar issue. I've been off since Mar 17th, perfectly capable to but still haven't applied. Can't really grasp why not though - I've worked and earned it.

Well I did some research and I will not receive any money from CERB if I have been receiving payments from EI, is that right?

As far as I know you can't receive both. It is only for recently unemployed people due to covid-19 (sick or laid off), and those caring for children or people who are ill. Like I said - if your EI runs out before October you can apply for it then.

They are sending out GST cheques early, and if you haven't already filed get your tax refund processed asap.

Most of us will, since most small companies won’t survive if this lasts longer.
... Except healthcare workers.

Ironpony give us an update. How did you fare in the pandemic. Were you able to get a job as the lockdowns were lifted?
