I'm so lonely
Absolutely.
Phone Friends and Internet Buddies is really the most constant communication most of us are having at this time.
At work, the protocols are strictly observed; distancing, masks, CONSTANT hand sanitizing.
‘Going Out’ and Hanging Out’ aren’t feasible until someone can get a grip on this plague.
Which is what it is.

And interstate travel is allowed? (Nashville next month)
We’re not even supposed to travel outside of our Health Region right now (which no one ever knew the boundaries of before lol) which means unless it’s a necessary trip for work we’re not even supposed to move from the suburbs to downtown, and for the last couple weeks and the next week or so we’re not supposed to visit any other household At All - stay home orders. If people get caught sitting at a table with someone from another household at a restaurant they can be fined, or if they’re on the highway heading out of the city to go to Whistler or something - fined. No interprovincial travel etc - you know, the kind of not moving around people do when the goal is not to spread covid like wildfire..
And yet you have no restrictions on these things? And even without government imposed restrictions, people Have WANT to travel around and gathering groups during a pandemic that’s raging out of control in your country??

It's not like we don't do anything about the pandemic either. When things started getting crazy again in the last few weeks, some resturaunts closed their dining tables and most schools have gone completely virtual(at least in IA). A majority of businesses in my area are smart enough to require employees and customers to require masks. I hate it that there are people who are okay with not wearing masks in public places. Trump is an idiot for having big rallies.
Even with all the bulls**t your government has done with preventing people from living their lives, has COVID not been much of an issue in Canada? These articles tell me that is not much different than in the US. The numbers are lower there because you guys' population is only 11.4% our population.

So, tell me how those restrictions are really helping matters there.

National numbers are skewed because of anti-mask anti-lockdown anti-government Quebec where 7,033 people have died. French Canadians don’t like being told what to do.
Then another 3,661 deaths in Ontario where they were slow to react and take things seriously. Also more densely populated, so that doesn’t help I guess.
Here in BC we have a population of 5 Million or so people, including very densely populated areas of Vancouver, and we have had 395 deaths - the 2nd lowest rate of covid deaths for a population over 5 million spanning North America & Western Europe. Only Norway has had fewer deaths for a 5M pop than BC according to some news stat on saw on tv this past week.
So, taking things seriously seems to have worked. Our case counts keep rising - several hundred confirmed per day now with ~daily records of like 900 something I think, which is why we’re smack in the middle of stay at home orders - no visiting any other households allowed, to get it back under control. sh***y thing is houses costs Millions of dollars here so almost no one can afford to live very close to where they work and people have no choice but to drive long distances to commute to work so they could be already covid around the region vs keeping it in one tight area.
Also, due to costs of housing & cultural reasons, some households consist of 2-3 related families, so like 10-15+ people in one very large house, which means when covid spreads in a household like that it’s a lot of new infections. Another rumoured cause is on culture’s huge multi-day wedding celebrations.. planned months or years in advance, costing $60-100k+, many of them apparently have just gone ahead and had them anyways and just accept the cost of a $2300 fine for hosting a party and don’t care about covid. a**holes.
But overall, with 5M people and 395 deaths, I’d say mitigation measures have worked here. (We now have a mask everywhere in public buildings/transit law & fines for non compliance, too.)

What I do NOT understand is that masks are not required for kids.
They can catch this thing, they can die, they should be protected.
In addition, joggers and bicyclists do not have to mask;
???
They are inhaling, they are exhaling, they can catch it, they can spread it!
My church has videotaped EVERY service since the beginning of the first lockdown; the message and encouragement is there, without the risk.
On Sunday a staff member gave the sermon, because the pastor has been quarantined.
While speaking, he shared that his sister died OF COVID two weeks ago.
This is not just numbers.
This is people, losing their lives.
This is loss and fear, and loneliness, and insecurity.
And people are walking around without masks.

If the joggers and bicyclists are within 6 feet of another person, they have to wear a mask until they are further than 6 feet from them.
One cannot walk into any store in NYC without a mask. Nor go on any public transportation.
Except for nearby states, people from other states coming into NY State must quarantine themselves for 14 days. If they obtain 2 negative tests, the quarantine is cut to 3 days.

Canada has the same 14 day quarantine rules for travellers both domestic and international.
And what’s unreasonable about having strict mitigation measures that save lives?

You may be doing your part just fine - that’s good. The problem is your country’s lack of federal leadership. We all know trump isn’t doing sweet f**k all about the virus and that his own words and actions are detrimental to the situation. Then it trickles down to boot licking trumpist governors who follow his lead.. which results in some of the highest covid death rates in the World like in the Dakotas. No masks, people still believing covid is a hoax or nothing to worry about etc.
We’re not perfect, either. In the areas that I would call the “trump country,” of Canada - in Alberta - their actions are now leading to overfilled ICU’s and for it their death toll is about to accelerate unnecessarily. And these are not poor uneducated people, just conservative politically and they’ve followed the lead of their “let’s not spook businesses too much,” government. Big mistake. Now people are dying that could have been saved Because ICU’s are overflowing.
Another battle we have are the conspiracy theorists.
Even very intelligent people who see how crazy Other conspiracy theorists like Q anonners are have fallen for a bunch of covid conspiracies believing that doctors are blowing it out of proportion for a big pharma bonus paycheque.
No, you idiots. Covid is real and the Reason the death rate is so low Here is because we sacrificed so much to keep people safe via mitigation measures and people behaved themselves reasonably well. It’s a success story, not proof that covid is a fabrication you otherwise very smart f*****g morons. Yes, these are actual battles I personally have to wage against my own friends - apparently conspiracy theories spread all summer at the beach instead of covid. Goofballs.

From what I am reading, here at WP people are taking this plague seriously, following the rules, staying informed, doing what we must to keep ourselves alive.
And protecting others.
THAT needs to be stressed.
We wear our masks, stay home, isolate ourselves, keep the 6 foot distance to protect ourselves, BUT;
So very many are being found to have had it, with little to no symptoms, that realistically ANYONE can have it and be contagious without knowing it.
Which means that 50% of the reason we observe the rules is to save the lives of OTHERS!

The Governor of California has announced new rules, including 'No dining in for restaurants, delivery only’.
Makes sense, but tent dining has been one of the few opportunities to get out of the house for more than a brief errand.
Many people are having real problems feeling locked in.
