If you cannot respect boundaries don’t be a therapist.
That's an interesting perspective because my thinking used to be the opposite. I always thought that therapy is pointless precisely because, according to their protocol, they can't be my friends. I always felt like sessions for just 1 hour once a week with someone who is supposed to remain a stranger the rest of the week, won't really solve any of my problems.
On the contrary, if I could get a therapist that could be my friend I would feel really lucky: for one thing, that would be a way of making friends on the first place since, as an aspie, I don't have any friends and I wish I did. But, apart from that, it would be the kind of friend who would be committed to solving all my problems.
But now that I read your post, I am wondering if I am missing something. I was assuming those policies were in place to protect the therapist, but now I see that they are trying to protect the patient too. So I guess, due to the fact that I don't have friends, I don't see all the ways in which friendships could be taxing. Plus apparently I don't see the benefits of therapy (since I want to add friendship to it in order for it to have a point).
I mean its not like I haven't had therapies before, I did. But they didn't help. Or maybe they didn't help because I didn't approach them in the right way. I tended to use therapy sessions to talk at length about whatever social interaction problems I was encountering, so it wasn't much different than talking to myself. Do you think I should have talked less and let the therapist talk?
Ok, look, can you make your own thread?

Ok, after firing this therapist I do feel a lot better actually.
Moral of the story, if a healthcare practitioner clinic jumps, then something is off.
Decide for yourself if you really wish to deal with it.
Perspective taking does have a place, but sometimes you don’t need and/want to take others perspective too much. Because it may cause excessive anxiety...and it may not matter that much all the time.
Thank you all for your messages!!

Update: I reported this therapist to my state’s board of psychology.
Because tbh, if someone outright asks you for a way to control panic attacks and you merely try to shove your job off to someone else, chit chat, and then send a bunch of articles I could easily find online on how to reduce panic attacks you help them.
Or be honest about not being able to.
BTW: when someone says they literally practice 36 different types of therapy including hard to find ones like Schema Therapy and they can’t even offer you a way to calm down that means they are full of s**t.
Go with someone who is licensed, and whose profile displays a clinical supervisor who has a current license.
Psychotherapy should be something where the one preforming therapy holds space for the person coming to therapy in a way that benefits the other person.
And does not hurt them.
I don’t even care if she didn’t mean it tbh, she sat there casually with her drink and s**t not even pointing the camera directly at her face way too many times just wanting to chit chat it seems. Not even being able to give any feedback that was meaningful.
If she wants to socialize there are other ways to do that.
Like god, I hate being charming sometimes because the people who are supposed to help you just want to talk. It sucks.

So, an update on the complaint.
She is not licensed with the state board of Psychology.
It’s with a different one. I searched in that public database under her name and nothing came up.
So maybe she is no longer licensed, was/is pre-licensed, or has no license.
When you go to a therapist of any kind, make sure they are licensed with a reputable board.
Because anyone can make an organization for counseling and then give out “licenses” or “certifications.”
And for someone practicing therapy while their profile online (that has been updated recently) saying they practice over 30 different types of therapy for almost any issue is very suspect.
No one is that much of an expert on all the vast manifestations of the human mind.
I would say I have read about psychology and psychiatry for years since childhood and even I would not classify myself as an expert. Because there is always new research.

To me, there should never be any question on who a psychotherapist or someone who says they practice any form of it is licensed by.
If anyone.
And pre-licensed to me (and I think most everyone else) that you are working and making progress towards licensing in that department to practice psychotherapy.
And that process cannot go on forever. And if it has gone on for a prolonged period than questions should be expected and answered.

Also, any diagnosis by a therapist who is this shady is almost worthless.
For psych diagnoses, I stay away from online tests, online lists, etc.
Go to someone with experience. A psychiatrist (the one who has MD or DO after their name in the US) with a lot of experience is generally the best, but even one who has a little is better than anyone like the therapist this thread is about.
