I sometimes see older men with younger women but apparently I shouldn’t go for women younger than me even if they are of legal age. Someone told me it was because I was “too old” like there was something wrong with me.

It seems you worry a lot about what other say and think. That's understandable and very common, but I'm glad to see you're moving away from it and becoming more assertive with your own choices.

I hope it happens for you before 40 as well.

I am scared I’ll keep increasing the age to this topic title unless something really drastic happens to me.

To be fair there's three outcomes, success is ideal; continuing to struggle and endure sucks but it's certainly better than giving up and accepting defeat.

Even starting a relationship doesn't guarantee it will work out long-term so getting too invested in the idea of needing one to consider yourself as having success is a bad idea. It makes it harder to find one and makes it more likely that one ending will be absolutely devastating.

That's not a reason to avoid trying, just a reason to keep it's value and importance in perspective.
