Passively suicidal
It is no surprise that many people with autism are suicidally depressed when their employment prospects are so terrible versus non-autistic and non-disabled people.
Employment discrimination doesn't end at the interview stage either. If you have disclosed your autism to an employer they might start treating you like a kid, and you are often automatically written off for any promotions even if you are the most academically qualified person in the building.
Many autistic people face a lifetime of low wages, even if they do gain employment.
It's all very dreary.

Am very sorry you having those thoughts...So being my sceptical self . The old saying , that , I had to repeat to myself for years,, was " Cheer up things could be Worse, And sure enough I cheered up and sure enough they got Worse."
And putting that idea behind me. Had found that certain sense of desperation with Life ..When you might be facing a uphill battle .... with less than a hopeful future . And have tortured myself with those concepts.
but...things can and do change, But had come to me that if I made some efforts , consistently to try to effect or even direct some of those changes . And because things can change. You might not be successful at first .
After several years of College. Ended up going to a short term trade school .
After all that .. And started a career, I could take with me..if my college schooling did not pan out ...And the areas , I was in needed nurses very badly .
And the State had started these trade school classes....8 weeks got me in the door . And could see opportunities to further that profession.( job). There are programs in various States thst do this.
Now near me at the airport, they are training the CDL drivers for the shuttle busses there. But the intent of what I am writing Was to hopefully show you a different methods to get ahead. In decent employment job. You may not want to be a large scale shuttle bus driver. But , you can snag free training and qualify you to get a CDL license.
But these are just thoughts.. Am more concerned that you have considered ,doing yourself in ..
When sometimes that time spent in those thoughts could be better spent sometimes.Best Wishes regardless. ![]()

It seems like most autistics who’ve had successful careers on WP did not disclose their autism to employers although, in some cases, it might depend on the workplace. I never disclosed.

That’s very interesting. There are programs like that in my area too, especially for trades that are in high demand.

Sometimes it takes much effort besides masking...keeping a schedule , possibly alittle homework from trade school.
But if you can tough it out for the certificate or license the State sponsored school or a company can offer .
For the 8 weeks or whatever .. You get to keep that document, license certificate for as long as you want. Pretty much just a fall back job. And possibly pick out more favourable places to work later on .
It couldbe difficult ,but if you see it through,if possible, You can keep that as a accomplishments of sort.?
And perhaps ,I could offer a virtual hug for the present tense...still hoping you get a positive break in your life soon.

Loves velcro,
NTs do have many struggles to find a job, I personally know a few of them. ASD folks may struggle more and find the process more traumatizing, but nearly everyone struggles. A lot.
I don't know where you live, but try and seek any ASD associasions that may assist with the job hunting. Apply for as many jobs you can find where you think you could work, even if you are underqualified.
Some people take years to find a good employment, others just hours, as it depends on many, many factors apart from you or your condition. Keep applying and don't be afraidmof interviews, I don't think interviewers bite. If the say yes, go, if they say no, next one.
You can do it.

There's another, admittedly cynical, way to look at it. Companies that want to tout that they are welcoming to the neurodivergent might give you some bonus points. Disclosing your autism won't get you a job you're clearly unqualified for, but it might give you an edge over an NT with the same qualifications.

I thought NTs rarely get fired or struggle with getting hired because they know how to make their boss and coworkers happy
As a general statement, there is probably a large amount of truth to that, in my opinion. Although if a person considers NTs to include mentally ill folk or people with personality disorders, then I'm sure that might not be the case in all cases.
