If it’s any consolation at all, dig up a crude shelter below ground (remember to make it large enough), air filtration, plenty of non-perishable food at the least. In theory if you were able to be there on time or in the lowest level of a building, you would survive the worst of the radiation unless you didn’t die immediately.
