I'll admit, I never really liked Lucifer, something about an angel that rebelled against YHVH, but then again always seems to be in heaven just doesn't sit right with me. To me, Lucifer represents false knowledge, the abrahamic knowledge of good and evil or so called science, that is really just repeatable hypothesis made up from someone's subconscious. Lucifer has always been considered the light-bringer, and I am a bringer of darkness. I simply don't worship knowledge for its own sake. Interestingly, Satan has been called a Prince of Darkness rather than a Prince of Light.

Everything and anything has always been called Satanic by those who disliked it for whatever reason. Satan is actually just a title that means adversary. Satan has also traditionally been seen as the creator of gods rather than god the creator.

Christians biggest weakness is their willingness to turn the other cheek, Islam's biggest weakness is their blind obedience and submission.

Dear Ragtime:

So, are you saying those who believe in Christ can live without sin?

Not at all. Comatose might get you there, but I don't think living, breathing human beings can be perfect in all ways simultaneously, when certain deliberate thoughts themselves are sins.

Averick wrote:
Does that mean those who just believe in him, or those who actually live in sacrifice and make themselves better people by living by his words, not just using them as a shield?

Many people in the Church are wrongly taught that all that is necessary to be saved, so that they may enter Heaven, is to make mental assent to Jesus being who He said He was. That's incorrect. "Belief" in the original text refers to an activity -- i.e. the question, "Do you believe that car headed straight for you is going to hit you?" If you answer, "Yes, I believe", but remain standing in the path of the car, then you haven't acted out the natural course of that belief, and therefore, you deserve to be hit by the car.

Same with true repentance. Repentance means making a 180º turn in your lifestyle, and alligning yourself with the way God wants you to live as expressed in His Word. Repentance that has no active will behind it is not repentance. People who mentally assent to the truths of Jesus Christ but do not seek to live them out will go to Hell like the demons who also correctly recognize Him. That is a fact.

"Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?" (Matt 7:21-22).

Are you really sure you have a relationship with God?

Also,

Quote:
"You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder. You foolish man, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless?" James 2:19-20

So, intellectual belief is not enough to save a person.

How would you know whether he lies? If he believes what he said, he might be mistaken, but would not lie. Unless you can demonstrate that monty deliberately wrote something untrue, you owe him an apology.

As far as I know, Muslims worship the God of Abraham, they recognize the Old Testament prophets, they even accept Jesus as a prophet, they just say Muhammad delivered the final update to the faith, the way Christians believe that Jesus delivered the final update. How does that make the god worshiped by Muslims any different from the god worshiped by Christians and Jews?

Edit: and while you think about that, have a look at the video posted by jfrmeister and consider whether you owe him an apology, too. I think you would owe him one even if he were wrong, for the condescending way in which you accused him of being wrong.

I did teach geography (at a private university); I am currently working in the private sector.

This so-called disinformation is also being spread by a majority of mainstream Christian denominations. Consider the following passage from the Catholic Encyclopedia; similar acknowledgments can be found from Lutherans, Episcopals, Methodists, etc.

Quote:

Allah

The name of God in Arabic.

It is a compound word from the article, 'al, and ilah, divinity, and signifies "the god" par excellence. This form of the divine name is in itself a sure proof that ilah was at one time an appellative, common to all the local and tribal gods. Gradually, with the addition of the article, it was restricted to one of them who took precedence of the others; finally, with the triumph of monotheism, He was recognized as the only true God.

In one form or another this Hebrew root occurs in all Semitic languages as a designation of the Divinity; but whether it was originally a proper name, pointing to a primitive monotheism, with subsequent deviation into polytheism and further rehabilitation, or was from the beginning an appellative which became a proper name only when the Semites had reached monotheism is a much debated question. It is certain, however, that before the time of Mohammed, owing to their contact with Jews and Christians, the Arabs were generally monotheists.

The notion of Allah in Arabic theology is substantially the same as that of God among the Jews, and also among the Christians, with the exception of the Trinity, which is positively excluded in the Koran, cxii: "Say God, is one God, the eternal God, he begetteth not, neither is he begotten and there is not any one like unto him."

http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/01316a.htm

There are Orthodox Christians and Eastern-rite Catholics who also speak Arabic and whose liturgies are in Arabic, and they call God "Allah." John goes to Germany and he is called Johann, then to Spain, where he is called Juan. Same guy.

Technically, all monotheist religions that worship a male humanlike God, it is the same god for all of them, as the three religions believe that Abraham is the founder of their faith and they all believe that the hebrew bible (OT) was a divine inspiration, however muslism and jews don't believe in the trinity.

wow thats some friendship

I was tempted to ask how does he look like, I am almost convinced, well, actually I am hoping that he does not mean that literally.

No, that is a belief. Most of your post was based on beliefs, and 'logical' conclusions based on your beliefs.

If I were to say that Ragtime believes in Demons and Hell, most people would agree that my statement is a fact (regardless of whether they agreed with Ragtime's beliefs or not). And that is the difference between comparative religious scholarship and religious polemics. A religious scholar can deal in facts and say "these are the typical beliefs of religion A, these are typical of religion B, and so on. They can investigate the nature of the beliefs, compare religions, and look into the history of different faiths with an open mind. A polemic, on the other hand, is committed to proving their own beliefs and disproving the conflicting beliefs of others, even if they find they need to ignore or bend certain truths, or resort to mystical 'evidence.' Problem is, they aren't really bending the truth - they are bending their mind.

I used to believe in one god, because I didn't have any better information. But my experience does not support that assertion. I've come upon too much inner and outer conflict to make that a useful perspective.

I've heard it said that god is love, if that is so, then why, I wondered, did I feel that love when I fought against the knowledge that people tried to to force down my throat against my own experiences, rather than just blindly accepting what they said.

Is Satan a supernatural being? Are most people here his friends?
