(This is as opposed to disagreeing through the use of a suicide-homicide bombs strapped to children by their own parents, or by attempting to crash four airplanes packed with innocent American citizens into populated American landmarks.)

I would not choose christianity because most religious christians i've known have no respect at all for the beliefs of other people.

Progressive Christians, like moderate Muslims, really do suffer on account of the hateful orthodoxies in their religions.

the palestianians have existed longer than the israelis. paul newman's been alive longer than israel has been in existence. palestine has existed as a country for a number of centuries.

Palestine is a nation-state created by the British during their expansionist period, carved out of chunks of the former regional empires.

Israel was founded somewhere in the region known by the same name today, then was captured by the Persians under (IIRC) Darius III. A later emperor permitted his Jewish subjects to return to their ancient homeland, where they rebuilt their main Temple, in the city of Jerusalem.

Neither one can claim to be the "original owners" of the territory - that'd be the Canaanites, who may or may not have been utterly eliminated after the Hebrew escape from Egyptian slavery.

Ethnically speaking, the modern-day Israelis and Palestinians are quite similar. The Israelis have had an influx of ethnic influences from many other parts of the world, given that virtually anyone who can claim Jewish ancestry can move there, but since the Jews were often forced to be separate from everyone else in their host nations, the ethnicity was often conserved. The bases claimed by the Israelis for discriminating against the Palestinians ring a bit hollow - it's a bit odd, after all, to expect the local minority group to give up hating you when you cut off their power and water, and bulldoze their homes, on the basis of mere suspicion that terrorists might have been using the area.

palestine wasn't created by brittain. israel was created by brittain and palestine was fractured by brittain after world war I. they were awarded palestine and syria while france got a couple other countries from the ottoman empire. the gears for creation of israel was put into effect around 1917 with the balfour declaration.

too bad israel hasn't kept their end of the bargain with regards to the "it being clearly understood that nothing shall be done which may prejudice the civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities in Palestine" part of the declaration but they're independent now.

I've never really known a book to encourage violence and force the way the Qu'ran does. I know there are a lot of nice muslim people out there, but the book isn't so much.
