Russia invades Georgia

It's because Georgia went on the offensive that the US,NATO and the EU will be reluctant
to get involved.Most of the population in South Ossetia are Russian citizens so it's not
surprising Russia is coming to their defence against indiscriminate bombardment of the
civilian population.

why is everything so expensive in russia? i heard on the radio the other day that coffee in a store is $10 a cup

No way! Russia will rise against the bloody americans, raping and killing american people in american territory, just as they did with Germany in WWII.

While it is true the Georgians fired on South Ossetia it was because they were getting fired on by South Ossetian rebels, who where likely goaded on by Russians. Russia itself had brought more 'peacekeeping' troops into the area in recent months, which is greater then the number agreed in 1994. It was clearly a very well planned operation.

Regardless of what you feel is the position on South Ossetian liberation, Russian intentions extend further then than the breakaway regions, clearly.

They make no pretence about not wanting Georgia to join the EU or NATO. You name it whatever former Russian state that border Russia they will want to get involved in their affairs. It could be a simple democratic decision to take down a statue in Estonia for instance, Putin personally will get involved.

It is only the countries that have been able to distance themselves from the Russians and join Europe such as the Hungarians (who never really had the soviet temperament anyway, even if some supported of communism), are not dog bait for Russia.

Georgia had granted the South Ossetian some autonomy and offered them more. There hasn't been a more progressive administration than the current one. The Russians were already in there anyway and have been for some time. People were living peacefully there, but not long ago thing seem to be flaring up for untold reasons. It is getting clearer that Russia was involved in this and that should have been a warning.

I have only one thing to add to this thread, but it's something I hope people really try to understand as to why Georgia NEEDS Abkhazia and South Ossetia:

What i don't understand is how you can compare small skirmishing with mass bombardment of a city.
Thousends died in that bombardment.
The media is playing a game right now in where it makes it seem to the average idiot that Russia is pounding poor little Georgia for no reason.
Looking at the news today there seems to be no mention of the fact that the vast majority of the casualtys were Ossetian civilians.
News topics named "who wil stop Russia" are sketching a one sided picture of the conflict.
On top of that they are showing protests by georgians around the world of theyr protests against the Russians.
Dr goebels could proberbly not have done a better propoganda job than CNN etc.
This is a very dirty political game in the ongoing struggles over power and ultimately oil in the caucassus and the middle east.

I hope Russia arrests the president of Georgia for for what he did.
Atacks on a country/region by pounding a whole city into the ground is what you expect during ww2... not the 21 century.
My heart goes out to all the Ossetian and Georgian victims in this brutal conflict.

I don't actually believe you are being sincere which is unfortunate. That is divisive rhetoric thinly veiled as compassion. It know it when I hear it.

I condemn attacks on civilians targets. Georgia is not faultless but any means but you are exagerating. Besides if Russia was so concerned for the Georgian people it wouldn't have bombed civilian targets, then when the Georgian troops pulled out then bombed again. It also happen inside Georgia 'proper'. This is what Russia considers 'punishment'. Don't consider Russia a beacon of integrity on humanitarian issues. Have you not studied some world history?

Sincerely, it's incredibly funny reading these posts about "cruel Russians" and "good USSR", at once obvious that mass media has destroyed your mind...

And, by the way, you contradict yourself: not Russia, but the USSR won the WWII and marched into Germany.
