My #1 pet peeve as far as online ads is the ones that say, "You got free such and such, just click here." I know there's no way anyone is giving away an IPOD or $250 so that's just plain misleading and borders on fraud. If an ad advertises a gimmick, it needs to be a bona fide deal.

actually, they *will* give you a free ipod: (was going to insert link to new york times article, but i don't have time to find it)

Visit Anything4Free.com to find out which ones are legit. I've received over $4k in free sites, but I've basically quit now. (I did use Simon cards though, not real CCs the offers are shaky companies. Sometimes using simons is looked down upon, sometimes not... depends i suppose)
Everything except $ received:

At work and using IE...
The popups are still here and quite offensive - one covered my screen in some kind of red bubbles. Also the pages are loading slow and some too wide.

Do any of the ads collect any personal information?

I don't know how they could. They get your IP address, operating system, browser and referrer automatically.

Don't worry. I have control over all aspects of this site and I am definitely listening to (and usually agreeing with) member suggestions.

Wow. You have so much power and yet you are so mild-mannered about it. Your site is so impressive it blows my mind. I think advertising is a little annoying, but if that's what it takes to keep this going and make it better, then it's okay. It's good to hear that you listen to what people have to say. Personally, I hardly notice the ads on this site.

You rock, Alex.

Alex, there seems to be an increasing number of bothersome 'moving' ads - for smileys, e-cards, cursors... Would it be possible to remove some of them?

Which location? (top, left, or bottom)

By the way, popups are removed from the Homepage and forums.

Currently left and bottom. Now it's ipods and free screensavers. I imagine it's probably hard to find ads that *don't* move though.

click on the red spider to win made me particularly ill - i tried to scroll past it and at the bottom there was an ad blinking in many colors telling me i won and to become a mystery shopper. i am sorry i can't look at these long enough to identify them, but it makes me physically ill to try.

Verizon ad on the left has some red "twinkles". Doesn't bother me, but I guess it might some. Are you going for a "no motion" policy Alex?

I have no problem with the ads as such if they are bringing in some more finances to improve the site but I have noticed that I have difficulty loading some of the pages since the ads appeared.

This only happens on my computer with XP so I am guessing it is something to do with my security settings but with some pages I seem to be waiting for minutes to load the whole page.

It's very frustrating and spoils what is otherwise an excellent site
