Well, seeing as you've given us only a spectrum to work with, to get out of it without a change of basis I'm going to use imaginary numbers; using the political compass model, Re(z)>0 and Im(z)<0.

I think I would fall into moderate-left I suppose, although not sure, according to that spectrum, with modern social democracy as an ideal economy system in mind, support for gay marriage, pro-choice (pro-abortion ;)), legalization of marihuana, legalization of prostitution.

I tried to submit a response here and ended up starting my own thread!!
I don't know how that happened. Anyway I won't repeat it here.

Anarchist. Government, by its nature, supports none of my goals and ideals and opposes many of them.

Incidentally, I changed the poll, giving seven options instead of two.

Its the anarchists that all other anarchists hate!

this is a better definition
http://www.eco-action.org/dt/primer.html

why do I think this? I just think that it is true and how things are going and after peak oil we will have to take steps back wether we like it or not. I strongly believe co operatives and permaculture is the solution. I think most politics comes down to just what feels right for oneself and is very personal.

How do we get from where we are to Anarcho-Primitivistism? I find that people are addicted to being governed.

I think this is the best thing about Anarcho primitivism is that you dont have a revolution or anything, there is no plan or forcing of people as from other communist and anarchist models, no killing. With this we can all take control of our lives today and live sustainably and grow our own food. I think this is already happening to a certain extent, peoples behaviour is changing and a lot of people are already rejecting the materialsim of capitalism and organic food is increasing in popularity.

I think as peak oil takes its toil anarcho primitivism will occur naturally as peope are forced to go low tech and be more co operative and community orientated by the circumstances. In the community solutions film 'how Cuba delt with peak oil' it has lots of fabulous low tech solutions including permacuture roof gardens. Now Cuba has more food production than when it used loads of chemicals and now its mostly organic.

I think its significant that in Pompeii the poor did not have control over their food but had to work and buy street food. The Romans used control of the food sourse to up hold their rule. Today people dont grow their own food and shop in supermarkets, I think we need to take back control of our food and with that take our power back. I think food control is significant in imperial power.

Republicans changed since Nixon & not for the good. The best leaders we had in my opinion [Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Eisenhower] where Republicans. However thanks to a certain movie actor the Republican Party changed from being more liberal like they where to a very conservative platform.

Believe it or not Nixon was a great president. His morals where just too low & he video-taped evidence against himself during Watergate.

Overseas however my political position would be more in the line of Australia & Germany. Green Party all the way. Social and Economic freedom. Not too liberal but not too conservative.

I'm a moderate with a net lean to the left.

I love guns and think anyone that would want to take my Uzi away from me has a mental problem. I mean c'mon, if our government goes bad (fascist takeover, for instance), how the hell do you expect to fight them in this day and age? :D

Fiscal conservative, social liberal. Let people be who they are, but minimalize all spending. I guess I am really libertarian then.

Would you call Marxist Liberal ? The only way to sort out the mess that the world is in is the removal of the profit motive, until this happens we are going to see the continuing contradiction of a world economy with nation states vying for control. As we are seeing right now this is unsustainable both economically and environmentally.

I certainly do not think that Marxism has all the answers but to my mind it is a far better system than capitalism. Which ever way we go the world needs to come together. Lets hope for the poor and vulnerable people of this world that we do not see a global capitalist government

Most of Europe falls in the lines of marxist liberal. I am economically liberal because I greatly support redistrbution of wealth.

I wouldn't think most of Europe would fall under that ideology at all. I mean, if what you are saying is true, then it would make sense that most of Europe would consist of Marxist states, this is not true though, as a significant portion of Europe has fought against Marxism for a number of past decades and other states in Europe have renounced it, with some eastern states even pushing for flat taxes.

I do not mean to be rude but this shows a very uniformed understanding of politics

DentArthurDent, you commie bastard. I would not call Marxist liberal, but the gradual redefinition of the term "liberal," at least in the United States, is such that Marxism could be considered extreme liberalism, at least within the context of American politics. I don't know enough about other countries' politics to comment on their classifications and terminology.

I consider myself liberal, and I support the Liberal Democrats in UK politics, but I am not one of those borderline socialists who make rich people out to be evil. I believe it is possible and positive for people to make money ethically.

I am liberal on most issues, with few exceptions.

Me too. A friend of mine came up with the "Three Laws" idea:

1)Don't kill anybody
2)Don't hurt anybody
3)Don't steal from anybody

The United States currently has over 1,000,000 laws on the books. (Land of the free?)
How many laws do we really need?

How about killing in self defense? Define hurt. Define steal.

Your approach is over simple.

I'd like to think my ideals are my own independent of any labels or grouping. That said, probably 95% of my ideals just so happen to match that of "Bleeding Heart Liberal Tree Hugger."

I think in "Small village" terms. If we were a tiny village of, say 50 people:

- The more you make, the more you can afford to give back in taxes. Most religions teach charity towards the poor - without passing undue judgement on why they're poor. Those of us who were successful in the hunt share a little with those who weren't, so they can strengthen up and hunt better for themselves, maybe even share their hunt with you someday when you are less fortunate. It's the human thing to do.

- ... with a small caveat. I think the personal Income Tax should be axed altogether and instead beef up sales taxes. If you can afford to buy useless crap with more money than some of us will see in a lifetime, then you can afford to pay a tax on that useless crap.

- Decent welfare system that pays enough to live on for those who can't reasonably work, and actually helps those who can get back on their feet. In our tiny village, I'm not going to watch grandma and grandpa and the little boy with a broken leg die of starvation because they can't hunt anymore.

- Universal healthcare. I'm also not going to watch grandma or grandpa or the little boy with a broken leg die of their illness or injury just because they don't have obscene amounts of wealth to shower on me for treating them.

- Equal rights for everyone. I will worship no tribal-god that tells me to hate you because of what you have or don't have between your legs, or because of the amount of melatonin in your skin, or which gender of consenting adult(s) turn you on. We have more important things to vote on.

- Minimize our carbon footprint (responsibly, within reason). Most of our aboriginal ancestors would say it's a no-brainer that you take care of the ecosystem that feeds you.

- The greater the separation of church and state, the better. If you are so insecure about your religion that you find it a threat that a courthouse neutrally chooses not to display your religious doctrine on its grounds to the exclusion of others, then your problem isn't the courthouse and their neutral decision.

- U.S. out of my uterus. And everyone else's.

- If we hand-slap other countries for using torture, then we do not get to use it ourselves. And for good reason. Waterboard me and I'm going to tell you what you want to hear - which is not the same as telling you the truth.

- If we hand-slap other countries for declaring preemptive wars and/or holy wars, then we do not get to declare them either.

- Our little village leader is elected, and being so does not make him god-like. He does not get to be above our laws. Neither does the leader of our little village of 300 million.

Hmmm, I think that covers me for now.
