Moderators Hacked My Accounted!
The original Muscovy from central and south America is black and white. It like a perching duck it has sharp claws on the end of its feet. It is the only breed of domesticated duck not derived from mallard.
I am just surprised that janicka dismissed bizarre as having a problem with authority when clearly there is something amiss with both her and bazza's accounts. Frankly neither the mods nor the admin here has any authority as a given-- they just have power. Authority is something that is earned, it is a form of respect. Application of modding power here has been haphazard at best, and to call a board "family friendly" while it has a lurid adult forum that ANYone can click on claiming to be 18 is laughable. And if mods are supposed to quell flame wars, why did you all sit back and watch Graelwyn burn at the stake a couple weeks ago? The board is imperfect and always will be; adding mods (and alex tends to pick popular people anyway) just gives the illusion that things can be made right, and makes you all gang up on each other when an afront is sensed. I liked it better with no mods. But I'm just 1/11291 of the membership here, so take my words at their minute worth.
I am not keen on saying anything here, but I would say that although no mods has its merit, there would be no-one to deal with the kind of attacks Atomika has made on the forum over the last few days. He really was spamming up the whole site quite badly.
With no mods, quite simply, it would be an anything goes, say what you want to one another regardless of feelings board, which does work, but would probably lose a lot of members as the fact is, not all members are equipped to take flames, myself included and shouldn't be expected to have to.
I suppose the issue lies in what might be considered merely opinion and what might be considered flames/personal attacks/trolling etc... and in truth, the guidelines are flimsy. The TOS do say no personal attacks yet as it is the mods here let a lot of those just slide for fear of doing more than is supposed to be done. They also say no swearing, but that is just a norm on the board now. It is actually extremely confusing.
Maybe a member-wide poll on the issue would be a good idea, but I seem to recall the overall concensus following a load of Spam attacks was that more mods were needed.
Maybe a poll on whether flame wars and personal attacks should be allowed might be an idea... ?
Personally, I thought wp was more of a support forum as opposed to a certain other forum which is unmoderated and is rampant with flame wars etc.
But how can it be a support forum if some members end up needing support to deal with attacks on here, lol? It seems to be a paradox.
And as to the adult forum... I can see your point there. On other forums I have been on, those areas are invisible until an email or pm is sent stating date of birth but even then, people could lie about their age.
How old are people suppsoed to be to post on there?

Either 16 or 18...the latter, I believe
The mods don't have a lot that we can do about this. We don't have access to
any tools to help us determine what happened. Not certain whether this software
gives Alex that ability.
Choose your own definition of authority, then. But this is a proprietary site,
and the owner has the right to run it as he sees fit. Seems to be doing pretty
well, at least in terms of attracting and keeping a pretty large member base.
It's not the only game in town, but is far and away the most popular.
There is much more detailed discussion in my local free newspaper.
Welcome to the information age.
I was particularly torn by this. But I argued strongly against it, on the grounds that
anti-moderator speech is protected. I know that it hurt Graelwyn greatly, and on other
sites would have resulted in temp bans (at the least), it left us in a difficult position. Deleting
such attacks would seem self serving.
1. I KNOW that I wasn't particularly popular. I believe whatever criteria he used probably
involved time spent on the boards, which boards were likely to be read, and perhaps a survey
of posts by the prospective member. Those who are more 'popular' are less likely to be
tested through flame wars. If Alex had the time to do so, a better policy would be to
select unpopular people who never lose their cool on the fora.
2. Alex didn't want to make more mods. It was popular outcry which convinced him.
3. While we have our disagreements, I feel that we all respect one another. There don't
seem to be any permanent factions, simply views on particular issues. And friendship
doesn't seem to have much to do with where we stand on these.
4. Anyone willing to give input is greatly appreciated. Most people don't really
care.
Though, there is an alternative, which would be to CLEARLY define our mandate as ONLY this.
Alex chose not to, though it is pretty close, in my view.
Pretty much. If anyone (over the age of 18) wants a link to just such a site, PM me.
Though, with the auto-censor, that is mostly safe now.
Which makes circumventing the censor a questionable
activity. Now and then, I'll edit out foul language.
Pretty certain that the vast majority wants some discouragement of such matters.
See, usually the membership does a pretty good job of protecting people. But,
every now and then, someone ends up getting heavily attacked. Here, the mods are
useful. Flame wars also end up derailing the whole conversation, and cause harm to
the community - which is why I try and snip them, when I think that they might
be going out of hand. But, I let far more go than I stop.
On the other hand, there's not much in the adult section
which is not widely available. The gaming site which I
belong to, made up almost exclusively of teenage boys,
is WAY worse. And it's not blocked by any of the net-nanny
type of software. This is no longer the age of sexual prudery.
How old are people suppsoed to be to post on there?
Either 16 or 18...the latter, I believe
I think that it's 16. Makes sense, given that there's
no actual porn on there. But, the ease with which it's
entered means that there's no real limit anyhow, and
I'm pretty certain MOST of the kids who are interested
have peeked. Probably a useful thing.
There used to be a Muscovy Drake at the cemetery my wife and
I would hang out in. When we first saw it, we were convinced that
it was some hybrid turkey.
It would get aroused by all of the mallards, but was so old
that it would just be wheezing around them. Reminded me
of how I expect to be, in a few years.

Dare I ask how you knew it got aroused??
duckhens (don't ask) getting some action,
pacing franticly at the edge of the water,
and wheezing. Looked just like an old man
watching a porno.
If it mated usefully with mallards it would produce mule ducks, which would be infertile.

Interesting. When I first saw it, it had a muscovy mate, but
she died. I don't think it was mating with anything later - just
getting hot and bothered.
The last word is probably bad Latin, but it means "go (censored) the ducks".
You got something against ducks?
I tried. But, I'm too easily seduced by them. Do you think we should split the ducks
off? As in, is this topic SO important as to cause us to force it to remain on topic?
Calandale, you misunderstood my issue about the adult forum. It's not that it exists, it's that it exists on what is calling itself a family-friendly site, and that moderator activity is being performed in the name of it being a family-friendly site. It's illogical. The family-friendly title needs to be dropped as long as that forum is here.
And we've got one mod (janicka) saying that mods are here to quell flame wars, while you say that is not your job. This is what I meant by haphazard activity. And meanwhile, nothing was really done to protect Graewlyn when she was being attacked, despite there being at least one mod who believes flame wars should be quelled by mods... again, illogical.
I never said you were popular.... just that alex usually chooses popular people (as he did with his last round of mods before he gave them all the ax, and banned a lot of them). In your case he probably chose you because you are online a lot, and you post a lot.
