Desert willows when they blossom look like mini orchids and smell lovely too . But will take over a year to get a healthy plant, if cared for in the beginning , might consider a little water well around the base , to fill up several times weekly . As the branches expand ,expand width of water well .. Even a mesquite tree if cared for for awhile in the beginning of its life can do well , and be hardy. Might plant on leeward ( less windy)side of your structure .
Even got a rooted cutting for a Christmas tree one year, came in a pot .. Did soil prep , and nursed it with same water well procedure. It was a long needled Turkish Pine , it turned out. They like deserts of Turkey if you give them much care , watering daily in the summer when small . Got to be 17 foot. Before I left, but that took years . And was home alot those days. And was a dplit top cutting when rooted , So would not get too big. idk that when i bought it,
Or that it was a turkush pine?? I figure to give its best shot at life, and did plant it in a very old desert run off flash flood ditch, but off to one side , just incase.
There absolutely no other Turkish pines that I knew of for 80 miles in any direction. (Higher desert area). It will be there long after I pass .Pretty much very lightly inhabited area.
