I don't understand your system very well - seems overly complicated somehow ?? - but third parties?

In reality they don't achieve too much - here they only seem to temper the extremes of the mainstream for the most part but it is a political start, the rest is all just down to boycott [who you give money too], blockade [hinder the machine wherever possible] and if it comes down to it being willing to actually draw the line in the sand and defend it ??

Good luck! we all need it, peace j

My point is that you are the authors of your own delusion - the vast majority of Muslims want to live decent peaceful lives like most PEOPLE do, however they have been demonised to the point of high theatre, it is a joke, a paranoid delusion brought on by the machinations of an ever more desperate and greedy oligarchy.
I have said it loads of times before, but you are way more likely to die in a road incident or as a result of US military activities than as a result of 'Islamo-Facism', 'terrorism' or any other such extreme behaviour.
My own personal quality of life is being affected more by the ways of the Anglo/Christian west than it ever will be by Iran or Afghanistan. My personal experiences of Israeli or Palestinian/Lebanese people tells me who is the arrogant lying thieving shitebags, all that and the whining of the worlds most privileged citizens is tiresome.

Like I said get over it, you have made our bed and now you lie in it, if you want peace then perhaps you should be walking peacefully instead of behaving like the most warlike peoples on earth, or in your own personal case [WA = Western Australia ??] Americas number one client/ally.

What delusion? Islamic extremism is more a danger to Muslims than to the west as I see it. But anyways...

I'm a US citizen so I guess I'm one of the bad guys. Therefore I'm an evil imperialist. What do you expect me to do to redeem myself?

And I have problems when you lump me in with some pre-conceived notion you have of Americans.

Quote:
Islam is no more threat to most of the planets citizens than Christianity, America needs an enemy, it used to be the Soviets and now it is the Arab nationalist and Muslim fundamentalists, you need an enemy because it drives your economy and defines your national character, America thrives on war

This is stupid. The war is not doing our economy any good. It only helped a small handful of international corporations. The vast majority of America is worse off because of it. A horrible waste of resources and human life (both coalition and Iraqi).

So some people around the world are calling you on it, what do you expect?

I expect you to hijack a plane and fly it into me.

This shows your mindset perfectly, lol, I am not with you, speaking your rhetoric, therefore I must be agin you, lol, there are a myriad of other stances when one stands aside of the issue a little.

1/ I would not be flying a plane into anyone, however I might understand the motivations of those who do.

2/ I am able to separate myself from the nation state and often do, however I enjoy any/all the benefits life in this country offers and accept my share of responsibility when we er.

3/ So some people are sick of America - get over it, the rest of the world is tired of your tiresome hate mongering, for us it is not dissimilar to watching the rise of Nazi Germany in the 1930's.

4/ I would suggest you sort your s**t out and stop blaming other people for your own Dharma, if you want to have your greedy wasteful lifestyles achieved through violence, intimidation and deception, and don't want to accept responsibility for the outcome then you are really quite deluded.

Islam is no threat to me - America is, hell just your export of paranoia and fascism is affecting me!

My comment was facetious. Guess that went past you. You have no idea what my mindset is. Stop pretending you do. You don’t know anything about me.

Also, you are the one using the divisive rhetoric, not me. You started it back when you grouped me in with “you guys” and “a bunch of xenophobes”.

Please explain how you accept responsibility.

Where did I hate monger? You must be interpreting my words through your own veil of prejudice. You have shown no ability to read things objectively.

You need to elaborate here. Please explain my greedy wasteful lifestyle and how it is supported through violence. You need to back up your attacks on my character with facts.

Also, when did I ever blame other people for anything? I never said I blame Muslims for terrorist attacks. There are combination of reasons for terrorist attacks. The US and UK’s foreign policy in the Middle East is one, our relationship with Israel is another, and the prevalence of extreme interpretations of the Islamic religion is a third.

I agree here. Islam isn’t really that great of a threat to me. I also apologize for the Americans that export paranoia and jingoistic attitudes. However, I’m not one of them. Argue with Spot17. I'm not her. Stop being so hateful and accusing!

Criticizing religious extremism (whether it’s Christian, Muslim, whatever) is not the same thing as being xenophobic. Please get that through your head! Criticizing Islamic extremism is supporting moderate peace-loving Muslims around the world. They are the ones most vulnerable to having extremist religion forced on them.

@ Marshall

My apologies, re-reading this thread I see you are indeed a slightly more moderate individual, however it was you who turned this personal, I started in generalities [which is all a thread like this can ever entertain], and because I was lazy failed to keep your stream separate in my mind, so I apologise.
However, I am not a hate monger, that is ridiculous, I am just intolerant of bullies and liars and thieves and bigots and as the USA is using war and media lies to bully the world i think that inevitably the USA will become a target - tough luck.
Now to answer your questions.

1/ I have been an active 'light walker' for years and have planted trees in the thousands, participated in several environmental projects and as much as possible perform work that profits the community ahead of personal gain, however minimising the weight of my footprints is my main goal. I walk to work and bus wherever possible. I am vegetarian and buy unprocessed as much as possible...
I use my votes but have also been one of the 'radicals' who takes the blows when someone has to put their foot down and say enough is enough, boycott and blockade - works wonders!

2/ This is covered by my apology, however I was speaking generally, responding to you not accusing you, that would have been ridiculous really wouldn't it?

3/ You are an American are you not? '1/3 of the worlds resources?' answer that question?

4/ Marshall, toughen up mate, I am not hateful, perhaps you are just feeling guilty or uncomfortable, not my problem, like I said your nation is like a beast out of control people are getting sick of it, if you don't want to hear that then stay out of GLOBAL forums, we have to put up with it being American-centric as it is without you guys being unable to take criticism or comment.
The reality is that as long as your nation affects others and as long as you enjoy any benefits then you will be held in some way accountable, bummer but that is how it is.

Now if indeed we are on the 'same side' so to speak you may wish to toughen up a bit or move to another country, I will certainly not be letting up in my participation in any criticism or condemnation of any of your homelands actions.
Also if this forum was full of Chinese discussing similar hot topics concerning China and it's activities I would have a go at them too, or anyone for that matter, however this is an English language forum and dominated by Americans and unfortunately that means your compatriots concerns are often the topic of conversation, again get over it.

Now as I said sorry for any conclusions or aspersions that I have made or implied that you feel are erroneous but I am not going to go away as all of those Americans who find my critique uncomfortable would wish, I am here to stay, I have opinions and I will speak them, like I said if you are uncomfortable with it maybe you should play in 'American only' parks?

peace j

Thanks. I apologize too. Sorry if I retaliated to something you said that was a misunderstanding or directed at a different person. It's just that you started a scathing post by addressing me. Maybe you thought I was trying to defend Spot17’s position. I wasn't. I was just playing a little devils advocate. I don’t see things so black and white.

Good for you. We have many people in the US who do those things. I am fortunate to live in a place where I can walk or ride a bus to many places and when I do use my car I don’t have to commute far. This isn’t true most places in the US though. I don’t think things are going to improve drastically until our government presses the issue to invest in alternative energy and better city planning. Unfortunately this can’t happen with the current set up where the major energy companies virtually own the government and have no inclination to do anything.

It did seem kind of ridiculous. It's just that you kept adressing me and then using the word "you" your posts.

Not exactly sure. It may have to do with the “frontier” culture that goes back to the 1800s. The whole “manifest destiny” thing. We made things big and inefficient because there was a lot of room. Now it’s so ingrained that it’s hard to change.

The funny part is that we are not benefiting from our governments actions. The oil companies and their cronies are the only ones benefiting from the Iraq war. The majority of the American people no longer support the Iraq war. It’s also difficult when you have a president that lies to the people.

I don’t have any problem with you criticizing or condemning my homeland’s actions. Please go ahead.

I admit that I get upset when people imply that US civilians deserved to get attacked by terrorists or feel happy about the fact that it happened. You didn’t go quite that far, but I’ve seen people say such things. I know if I just leave it like this you’ll probably say “what about the civilians who die from US bombs?”, so I’ll just say here that they didn’t deserve to get attacked either. Americans who get excited over killing Arabs/Muslims are quite sick. I assure you the majority of Americans are not like this.

I guess you slept through the Algerian Civil War? Unaware of the conflict between moderate/secular Muslims and the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt? Not familiar with the situation in Turkey? Oblivious to the fact that the world's most populous Islamic nation is Indonesia, where the people are not so fanatical (although the Iraq debacle has pissed quite a few of them off, and will result in more violence from there).

Maybe your right - when do you hear from the moderates denouncing bloody violence? I was in my backyard today and didn't hear a peep from them. Soaked in the tub, didn't hear a word. Turned on Fox news, and it was only about the nutters. Since most of their news is written in that funny language that uses scribbles for letters, we can only assume that everything they write is a plot against us. One billion evil schemers just waiting to smash our TV sets and make us grow beards.

@ marshall,

Firstly, Thankyou - All good!

As you can see sometimes it is hard to have a civil conversation with some of your compatriots and after a while it gets tiresome listening to the arrogant ill informed BS that dribbles from their hate filled minds, if I get a little lippy and speak too generally I do sincerely apologise, peace j

@ monty

Good points cuz' but talking sense to the senseless is a waste of time - all they have is hate to hide behind and rational argument or humanistic thinking is lost on them, kia kaha, peace j

Yes, let's see, the Muslims I have met are so fanatical that I've gone to the pub with them (they just order orange juice instead of alcohol), several of the muslim girls i have met only cover their heads when it's cold outside, i've met a muslim that has no problems with homosexuals, etc. Yes, I've also seen Muslim women that cover everything except for their eyes and walk behind their husbands. I'm not saying the terrorists are not real or that they do not have numerous supporters in some Muslim countries (including some nominal US allies) or among Muslims in the West. But to say there are no moderate Muslims is patently absurd. Interestingly, a (Muslim) French Algerian girl I know wants to live neither in France (because of racism) nor in Algeria (precisely because of political Islam), and prefers Britain (as an EU citizen, she is legally entitled to do so if she wishes), i.e. she is choosing Europe precisely because of secularism.
it is obvious even with a superficial familiarity with world affairs that there is a huge difference between say, democratic, secular Turkey (who recognizes Israel) and fundamentalist, autocratic, anti-Semitic Saudi Arabia.
